THIS WEEK’S SOUNDSCAN CHARTS REVEALED

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007 at 11:17am by Vince Neilstein

Atreyu’s major label debut Lead Sails Paper Anchor had an impressive debut to land at #8 this week, and the Scropions newest effort also landed in the Top 100. Killswitch Engage’s As Daylight Dies got a nice sales bump back into the Top 200 due to the release of a special edition, while Sixx A.M.’s (Nikki Sixx) The Heroin Diaries slipped way down the charts, likely signaling the end for that amazing record after only its second week on the charts. Chart positions, sales figures, and our snarky commentary after the jump.

THIS WEEK’S SOUNDSCAN NUMBERS REVEALED

As Axl reported this morning, As I Lay Dying’s latest release An Ocean Between Us was the big story in metal this week with an impressive debut. Nikki Sixx’s new band Sixx A.M. also debuted in the Top 100 with the stellar soundtrack to the book The Heroin Diaries (read our review here), as did the soundtrack to Rob Zombie’s remake of the classic film Halloween. Chart positions and sales figures after the jump, and of course our patented commentary.

AS I LAY DYING: MUCH TOO POPULAR

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007 at 11:29am by Axl Rosenberg

As I Lay Dying’s okay-at-best An Ocean Between Us apparently sold 40,000 copies in its first week of release.

In case you need some perspective, that’s two thirds of the total sales to date of Chimaira’s Resurrection, and nearly three times as much as Machine Head’s The Blackening sold in its first week.

I hope you all get bent.

It was a tough week for the rock world in terms of record sales. The only notable debut was 12 Stones who landed in the #53 spot and are surely headed out of the Top 100 next week. Ouch. Click through for this week’s Soundscan chart positions and sales numbers.

THIS WEEK’S SOUNDSCAN CHARTS REVEALED

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007 at 3:15pm by Vince Neilstein

Korn’s new record Untitled stays in the top 10 (barely) during its second week of release, while Throwdown, Fuel and Drowning Pool make decent sized splashes with debuts in the Top 100. Finger Eleven’s Them Vs. You Vs. Me continues to inexplicably climb up the charts 23 weeks after its release, while Linkin Park, Nickelback, Hinder, etc, all continue to sell. Chart positions, sales figures, and of course our very special commentary after the jump. Click to read more…

THIS WEEK’S SOUNDSCAN NUMBER REVEALED

Friday, August 10th, 2007 at 12:11pm by Vince Neilstein

Sorry for the lateness on this one, but MetalSucks once again has a reliable source for Soundscan charts (thanks dude, you know who you are) so these will be a regular feature again starting… now. Korn’s untitled record Untitled makes a big splash with its debut, while most everything else is business as usual in the hard rock / metal world (Linkin Suck, Nickelsuck, etc). NIELSEN SOUNDSCAN FOLKS GOOF: DARKEST HOUR LIVE IN A VERY DARK HOUSE

Friday, July 20th, 2007 at 12:51pm by Vince Neilstein

Listed on this week’s Soundscan charts:

DARKEST HOUSE DELIVER US 6,623

Oops. Apparently we weren’t the only ones who made a grave mistake about Darkest Hour’s first week sales.

THIS WEEK’S SOUNDSCAN NUMBERS REVEALED

Thursday, July 19th, 2007 at 4:14pm by Vince Neilstein

Boy oh boy was I ever wrong about Darkest Hour. Instead of my predicted 50,000 first-week units shifted, the Washington, D.C. metalcorers sold a mere 6,600, not even cracking the top 100. Yikes. The Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan had a huge debut to land near the top. Velvet Revolver slipped down the charts in only their second week, perhaps foreshadowing the fate of the Pumpkins. The rest is more or less business as usual in Soundscanville. Chart positions and sales numbers after the jump.

THIS WEEK’S SOUNDSCAN NUMBERS REVEALED

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007 at 1:13pm by Vince Neilstein

This week’s big story is the comparatively disappointing debut of Velvet Revolver’s Libertad, which despite a #5 debut sold about 1/3 the number of first week copies as its predecessor Contraband. Recent mainstays Linkin Park, Rush, Ozzy, Marilyn Manson and Papa Roach hang on to solid Top 100 spots while Queens of the Stone Age drops precipitously. Detailed chart positions and sales numbers after the jump.
