Exclusive Premiere: Batillus Covering Ministry’s “Lava”

Batillus / Kowloon Walled City split

Speak of the devil! I was just singing Batillus’ praises yesterday in my Best of 2013 list. I swear these two items are unrelated.

And yet: today we exclusively unveil to the world a brand new Batillus song! Sort of — it’s a cover of Ministry’s “Lava.” But like all great cover songs, Batillus have made this version completely their own while retaining the integrity of the original; a Batillus fan who’d never heard a Ministry track in their life would easily identify it as Batillus while a dyed-in-the-wool Ministry fan would pick up on it right away.

“Lava” comes from a split 7″ that Brutal Panda Records will release on December 10th, the other side of which belongs to Kowloon Walled City covering Godflesh’s “Anthem.” The Batillus track features guest vocals from Kowloon Walled City’s Scott Evans alongside main Batillus growler Fade Kainer. Order the 7″ here before they all sell out. Stream “Lava” below, along with the original Ministry version for reference.
