ON SECOND THOUGHT, ASKING ALEXANDRIA ARE A PERFECT FIT FOR SEBASTIAN BACH

Monday, April 4th, 2011 at 4:00pm by

This video of Asking Alexandria vocalist Danny Worsnop totally fershnickered on-stage at a recent Seattle gig has been making the rounds these past few days, and I honestly don’t know quite what to say about it. I think this band is terrible, and there’s some schadenfreude to be had in watching this dude basically fuck-over a room packed full of paying fans; on the other hand, Worsnop apparently now recognizes he has a problem and is quitting drinkin’ n’ druggin’ (Asking Alexandria’s initials are “AA”… coincidence?!?), so I can’t give the guy too much shit, I guess.

Besides, the part of this video that really fascinates me — besides the fact that the fans don’t lynch Worsnop — is how mensch-y his bandmates are. They’re so calm and understand and fucking British! Bands break-up or almost break-up because of shit like this all the time, but these dudes are just so chill! If it were my band and the singer acted like this I’d probably beat him to death with my guitar. But I guess that’s why these dudes are rock stars and I’m just a blogger. Well, that and my refusal to get a ridiculous hair cut.

WHAT IS SUMERIAN NATION?

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011 at 12:30pm by

Props to Heavy Blog is Heavy for catching this interesting update from Sumerian Records’ official Facebook page:

As HBiH notes, this sounds like it’s going to be a release (or releases) in the vein of Roadrunner United and Nuclear Blast All-Stars — basically a “who’s who” team-up of musicians signed to the label. Those offerings actually ended up being, by and large, pretty cool (I mean, of course there were some missteps, but I don’t look back at those albums and think, “Well, that was ill-advised”), and Sumerian’s current roster is one of the strongest in metal (The Faceless, Animals as Leaders, Periphery, Veil of Maya, After the Burial, etc., pretty much make up for their creatively vapid bands like Asking Alexandria and Upon a Burning Body), so it makes sense that they’d wanna do something like this.

Question is… what form, exactly, will it take? I almost don’t care, as long as Bizzy Bone is involved. Hey, it could happen.

ASKING ALEXANDRIA AGREE TO HELP SEBASTIAN BACH SEEM YOUNG AND HIP

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011 at 1:30pm by

I somehow completely missed this until I read about it on Metal Injection, but it seems that Sebastian Bach will be performing “Youth Gone Wild” with Asking Alexandria as his backing band at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards next month. (DevilDriver and Jamey Jasta will also be doing a tribute to Black Flag, but I have nothing funny to say about that.)

AXL ANSWERS SOME READER E-MAILS

From Beastmaster:

“Over the last week I’ve noticed on the PRP that both Chelsea Grin and Within The Ruins have been denied entry into to Canada for their separate respective tours. Now granted, I don’t necessarily love these two bands, but I’m wondering if they are possibly related in some way…. Dun dun DUNNNNNNNN.”

Yes. They are both related in that I don’t like either of them. Unfortunately, I don’t control the Canadian government, so my guess is that they actually both just have merch dudes with records for possession or something idiotic like that. In any case, yes, I agree it’s ridiculous that Canada gets to be spared Chelsea Grin while Americans have to continue to endure them.

SXSW ’11 UPDATES: ALOHA EYEHATEGOD/PENTAGRAM, ADIOS BENEA REACH + HAARP, SKATENIGS, RIGOR MORTIS (???) & MORE

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011 at 11:30am by

Trying to keep up with the changes at a music festival is like trying to herd a pack of rabid cats. The South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Festival is the biggest musical kitty corral of them all. That’s why you have me here to help you make heads or tails of all your SXSW metallic/hard rock/punk rock/experimental/etc. needs.

There have been plenty of line-up changes since my last SXSW music post over a week ago. First on the list is the welcome news that NOLA-sludgekings eyehategod will team up with doom metal pioneers Pentagram to close out the conference on Saturday, March 19 (both bands will be going on after midnight, so, technically, they are playing on March 20) at the Scoot Inn. They’ll be joined by a stellar group of bands including Cough and Naam.

Other notable additions include YOB, Slough Feg, and Zoroaster.

NEVERMIND THE BOLLOCKS, HERE’S A TEASER FOR THE NEW EMMURE ALBUM

Wednesday, January 12th, 2011 at 10:00am by

Fuck. Yes. Though it’s not even a minute long, the above sample from Emmure’s forthcoming Speaker Of The Dead LP enhances my excitement for one of the most anticipated hardcore albums of 2011. Due out February 15, it promises to be the opposite of a Valentine’s Day present: a shiner instead of a bouquet. A digital single entitled “Demons With Ryu” will be out next week via iTunes. If you’re as stoked as me, you can pre-order the album here. The following month, Emmure will support this new record on the road with Asking Alexandria, Chiodos, and Miss May I, though given their propensity for touring I suspect these are just the first of several dates the band will play this year.

In related news, frontman Frankie Palmeri, whom I interviewed this past summer, has just dropped the debut full-length from like-minded deathcore act Monsters on his own label False Prophet Records. Tour dates for Emmure and Monsters, respectively, are below the cut.

THOUGHTS ON THE 2010 THRASH & BURN TOUR LINEUP

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010 at 11:00am by

thrash and burn 2010

The Summer metal tour market for 2010 is crowded, yo.We’ve got the older and mainstream metal-skewed Rockstar Mayhem Fest (Korn, Zombie, 5FDP, Atreyu, Winds of Plague, Hatebreed) the Rockstar-branded radio metal “Uproar” Tour sure to be a hit in Red States (Disturbed, A7X, Hellyeah), the Christian, metalcore and Christian metalcore fest known as The Cool Tour (As I Lay Dying, Underoath, War of Ages, Blessthefall, and uh… BTBAM) and the sexiest of all sex kittens, Summer Slaughter (Decapitated, The Faceless, All Shall Perish, The Red Chord, other cool bands). And, if you count 6 dates as a “tour” you’ve got Ozzfest, which does a surprisingly good job of combining the old (Ozzy, Motley Crue, Rob Halford, BLS) with the new/cool (Kingdom of Sorrow, Skeletonwitch, Goatwhore, Saviours).

So with all that on our plates, we’ve got yet another tour coming down the pipe this summer? As you’ve no doubt gathered from this article’s headline and image, yes, indeed we do.

My thoughts on the 2010 Thrash & Burn lineup — and dates — after the jump.
