It was fun to speculate last about with whom Slayer might spend the summer touring, but now we have an official answer: as rumored, they’ll be co-headlining the Rockstar Energey Mayhem Festival with their ‘07 tourmates, Marilyn Manson.
Next week the U.S. gets a new President, thank fucking God, and Relapse Records is celebrating by issuing a 7″ box set of their This Comp Kills Fascists compilation. How fucking awesome is that? Until then, here’s what we’ll mull over during the long weekend (MLK day in the U.S.):
Behemoth are getting ready to record their Metal Blade debut, and like every other band in the known universe, they’ll be releasing a series of webisodes to attempt to get their fans all hot n’ bothered and build some pre-release hype (in which I now find myself, at least for the moment, a willing participant).
The initial webisode covers pre-production, which means we get a glimpse of the band sans their usual make-up corpse paint, which, at least for me personally, ruins the illusion that Nergal is a bad-assed motherfuckin’ anti-christ and reminds me that he’s really just some Polish dude named Adam Darski.

All is not lost in the world of metal; in fact, this past week brought some nice surprises, along with the usual mish-mash of shitty radio rock bands. Last week’s sales numbers, with our usual sardonic commentary, after the jump. (Hint: look at the tags below, and click “read more” if any of those bands interest you!).
You’ve got to hand it to Behemoth and their management. After last year’s impressive The Apostasy, which saw these armored, Polish juggernauts continue their ascent to international popularity and critical recognition, I’ll bet nobody was expecting to hear much from them this year. In their own restless way, however, Behemoth have done more than expected to ensure that they’ll continue to be on lips of metal heads or at least bubbling in the back of their minds; this year has seen the release of both the first Behemoth live album, At the Arena ov Aion – Live Apostasy, as well as a video for “At the Left Hand ov God”. The latter has the honor of being the most ridiculously expensive-looking and just plain ridiculous music video in the history of extreme metal (ousting previous champion Dimmu Borgir). Now as 2008 recedes into wintry cold, Behemoth have graced us with one last reminder: the Ezkaton EP.
