So yesterday we got a bunch of e-mails from people regarding this story going around about Brokencyde. This yarn went that the band’s tour bus was pulled over for speeding in New Mexico, and that when 5-0 inspected the bus, they found an assload of drugs, a fourteen year old girl, and a laptop full of photos of the band fucking other underage chicks.

And even though the story meant that any number of young girls were forever going to have to live with the memory of having one of these pop their cherry…

…these reader e-mails suggested nothing short of elation. For surely, it meant that Brokencyde were going bye-bye.

Just one thing. The story’s not true.

So I’m sorry to disappoint you all — Brokencyde’s fifteen minutes are not yet over.

But at least we know no little girls got fucked, right?

Here’s a marginally entertaining way to waste time at work.

You know that game “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon?” I’ll assume you do, lest I think I even less of you than I do already.

So. A MetalSucks Maniac who asked to be identified only as “Bob” found this website, 6 Degrees of Black Sabbath. I don’t know why they chose Black Sabbath for their moniker, since the site is in no way specific to Sabbath; the site will basically connect any two artists you like in as few steps as possible – although there seems to be some lapses in its education. I tried to connect Guns N’ Roses to Iwrestledabearonce, and the site didn’t know who Iwrestledabearonce are. Or Brokencyde. Or Hollywood Undead. The site was, however, able to connect Cannibal Corpse to Ian & Sylvia in fourteen steps. Hm.

ANYWAY, as an example, here’s one Bob did, connecting The Acacia Strain to Ke$ha in seventeen steps. I’m sure the site will also help some of you cheat at our “Dark Tranquillity Family Tree” contest. Or, at the very least, help you procrastinate.

Depending on who you believe, Axl Rose has been directly or indirectly responsible for four riots during the course of his career, and two of them were in Canada – one in Montreal and one in Vancouver.

So the news that Rose may announce Canadian tour dates (or at least a date) this Monday is somewhat unsettling.

Last week was a ginormous week for new metal releases, and with new ones from Killswitch and Suicide Silence this week promises to be the same. Topping last week’s crop was Dream Theater’s Black Clouds & Silver Linings which debuted at #6 on the Soundscan Charts. Wait a minute… Dream Theater debuted at #6?? Holy fuckity-fuck. Darkest Hour, The Mars Volta, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster and Goatwhore also had strong debuts. Click through for chart positions and sales numbers.

When will this horrible, horrible, horrible trend die out? Certainly not any time before June 16th, when Brokencyde’s new album, the appropriately titled I’m Not A Fan… But The Kids Like It comes out. Tours like this one are criss-crossing the country, Revolver is shilling for Hollywood Undead, and there’s a new crunk-core band popping up on the radio seemingly every week. Times are grim, my friends.

Here’s Brokencyde’s new video for “Booty Call.” Watch, fear for the well-being of our nation’s children, then hit up @brokencyde on Twitter and tell them how much they blow.

The May issue of Revolver has an article on Hollywood Undead and “the screamo-crunk explosion,” and while I’m aware that there are people I completely respect who love this shit, this particular sub-genre pretty much makes me want the ending of Dr. Strangelove to come true.

The article included some bands we’ve already declared our hatred for here at MS – the aforementioned Hollywood Undead, Brokencyde, and I Set My Friends on Fire – but also has the unfortunate distinction of having introduced me to Breathe Carolina and 3OH!3.

Honestly, I can’t see how these bands are considered metal, or even hard rock. But, then, I  can’t see how they would be considered anything other than “awful.”
