Scottish rockers Mogwai are another one of those non-metal bands that a lot of metalheads seem to like a whole lot. And it’s not just metalheads; Mogwai seem to have a fanatical following amongst general fans of good music all over the world. Either you don’t really know anything about this band / don’t care or you fucking LOVE them (I’ve never heard anyone say “Mogwai sucks.”) I’m in the former category, but I’ve heard enough good things about them over the years to spark my interest. When I interviewed The Ocean mastermind Robin Staps during their U.S. tour two years ago he mentioned that after the tour he’d be going to some festival in [I think] Sweden to see Mogwai, and he was extremely excited about it. Just yesterday the trustable lads over at Crustcake expressed a similar excitement about the band’s upcoming album. If Robin Staps and Crustcake are into any one band, color me interested!

So what Mogwai albums should I check out? Do you like Mogwai? Mogwai is one of those words that sounds funny when you say it too many times. Mogwai mogwai mogwai.

Crustcake, one of our favorite metal sites that isn’t this one, has started a podcast. In addition to host/Crustcake regular The WZA’d, the inaugural edition features the great Cosmo Lee and Jess Blumensheid. I was invited to be a guest and couldn’t participate this week due to pre-Thanksgiving bullshit, but I hope that Vince and/or myself will be able to to join a future episode.

Our pals over at Crustcake are hosting an awesome Eyes of Fire retrospective, including free mp3s of this awesome band who disbanded way too soon. If for some reason you don’t know this band, you should watch their video below for the track “It All Dies Today,” then head on over to Crustcake and grab yourself some free music. So we finally got to meet Crustcake at the Hate Eternal/BDM/3 Inches of Blood show on Wednesday; we also got to meet Crustcake’s friend, the excellent photographer Jesse Angelo (I knew I liked Jesse right away because he was wearing a totally rad Jason Voorhees shirt… so clearly he’s a man after my own heart).
