WATCH: THE RETURN OF HE IS LEGEND

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012 at 3:00pm by

He Is Legend made two of the past decade’s awesomest, most infectious records, so I went straight to Bonersville upon their December announcement of an end to their two-year hiatus and a new album for 2012. Their first shows back were last week in North Carolina, a place I can’t locate on a map let alone visit (it’s over by Tennessee and Arizona right?), so I’m just happy as shit to enjoy some shaky, unflattering fan film of the jam (above). The clip reveals a rustless He Is Legend before a very happy crowd ripping happily — except for inscrutable guitarist/stud Adam Tanbouz, though his frownypants may relate to the usual technical wrangling during a gig’s first song. Fully mirin his Dark Funeral shirt.

BUZZ OSBORNE: THE METALSUCKS INTERVIEW (PART ONE)

Friday, May 7th, 2010 at 4:00pm by

Interviewing Buzz Osborne was, without a doubt, one of the best experiences of my lucrative career in music journalism. Sometimes, interviewing can be a real drag, me trying to pull meaningful answers out of disinterested people. What a bummer it is when you realize that someone whose music you dig turns out to be a jerk or worse–a bore. Thankfully, the frizzy-haired Melvins frontman and Fantomas guitarist proved to be a funny, engaging, and opinionated interviewee, turning what could have been a straightforward Q&A session into an hour-long phone conversation. For your sake, I’ve broken this dialogue up into two parts, the first of which appears below.

The Bride Screamed Murder, the imminent new full-length Melvins album, is the strongest work of the current Big Business-infused lineup and quite possibly the best damn record the band’s put out since the classic Houdini. Read on to learn King Buzzo’s thoughts on the new record, black metal, military cadence, and why U2 are “a bunch of pussies.”

DARK FUNERAL HAVE HOLES IN THEIR HANDS

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009 at 12:30pm by

angelus exuro pro eternus

Since I’m not really a Dark Funeral fan, I have absolutely nothing intelligent to say about “Stigmata,” the new song that is now streaming on the band’s MySpace page, so I’ll just tell this completely inappropriate joke instead.

Jesus walks into an inn. He hands the Inn Keeper three nails and says, “Can you put me up for the night?” Rimshot!

Feel free to share your own tasteless Jesus jokes in the comments section below. Or just, y’know, talk about the actual music.

“Stigmata” comes off of Dark Funeral’s new, Peter Tägtgren-produced album, Angelus Exuro pro Eternus. It comes out November 18 on Regain.

“THIS VIDEO DOES NOT GLAMORIZE OR IN ANY OTHER WAY GLORIFY OR PROMOTE DEATH, SUICIDE OR VIOLENCE”

Monday, October 5th, 2009 at 11:00am by

If this video were as interesting as its disclaimer, Dark Funeral might really be onto something. But it’s mostly the same crap you’ve seen in a million other metal videos.

“My Funeral” comes off of Angelus Exuro pro Eternus, which Regain will release on November 18.

JUMPING DARKNESS PARADE: DAATH’S EYAL LEVI ON LISTENING TO NON-METAL MUSIC

We all love metal. That goes without saying. That’s why we all read this site and keep up with what our favorite, and not so favorite, bands are doing. From people in bands to fans, we all pretty much live, breathe, sleep, and bleed metal.

So I guess what I’m wondering is: does it ever get old to any of you?
