Tuesday, February 7th, 2012 at 5:00pm by

This week we have another awesome prize for you, courtesy of David Hall’s Handshake Inc.: three copies of Die Wege Der Lust, the new full-length from Mexican goregrinders Rottenness. If you watched the creepy-as-fuck, Hall-directed video for the band’s song “As Far as the Fist Can Go” when it debuted on Metal Injection last week, then you already know the kind of sick, sick shit you’re in for with Die Wege Der Lust. The album, which was produced by produced by Cephallic Carnage’s Steve Goldberg, was originally released by Sevared Records, and is currently available  as pay-what-you-can download via Handshake Inc. But if you want a super-awesome free CD copy, will, you best enter this contest son!

All you gots to do to win is identify the name of the band whose logo appears below, then shoot me an e-mail at axl AT metalsucks DOT net with your answer, your name, and your address. ALL ENTRIES WITHOUT AN ADDRESS WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. From everyone who gets it right, we’ll randomly select three winners, and announce their names next week.

This week’s logo was suggested by Chris… thanks, dude!

CINEMETAL ROUND-UP: NEW VIDEOS FROM PUSCIFER, AVATAR, ROTTENNESS, SOEN, AND THE CAUSTIC CASANOVA

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012 at 11:00am by

I’m going to put about as much effort into this introduction as Dragonforce put into their new album art.

We begin  today with “Short Commute, Live Forever,” from Caustic Casanova. They’re not really a metal band at all, but the video was directed and animated by Wesley Belak-Berger, the same dude who made Big Business’ awesome video for “Mind the Drift.” So I’m putting it above the jump, because I can tell you right now, it’s pretty much the best music video you’re gonna see this week.

EXCLUSIVE VIDEO PREMIERE: JUCIFER’S “HIROSHIMA”

Monday, October 24th, 2011 at 1:00pm by

Man oh man, do we have an awesomely weird one for you today. To our delight, Jucifer asked us to premiere their new video, for the song “Hiroshima,” and we can pretty guarantee you that you haven’t seen a metal video like this before. It might be fun (or horrifying, we’re not really sure) to drop some acid before watching this clip. But if you don’t have acid, well, no worries — the images in this video will more than convey the feeling that you are tripping balls. Seriously, this is a strange, strange video, and we mean that as a very high (!) compliment.

Check out the David Hall-directed clip below! “Hiroshima” appears on Jucifer’s latest, Throned in Blood, which is out now on Nomadic Fortress/Relapse. The duo has a new album and a European tour planned, both slated for April.  In the meantime, they’ll celebrate their nineteenth year as a band and twelfth year of nonstop touring with dates across the midwest and east coast. You can get all their upcoming tour dates here. The band’s early four track EP Nadir has recently been mastered for reissue by Scott Hull, and will see its first digital release via Grindcore Karaoke soon.

But wait! There’s more! Director David Hall — who also made the Maryland Deathfest movies, as well as videos for Today is the Day, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Sigh, Fuck the Facts, Hail of Bullets, and Woods of Ypres — is getting out of the of the music video business, and into… the VHS business??? Read more after the jump.

WHY YOU WON’T SEE MARYLAND DEATHFEST: THE MOVIE III ANYTIME SOON

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011 at 4:00pm by

I stole this photo from Invisible Oranges.

I wasn’t a big fan of last year’s Maryland Deathfest: The Movie. But I haven’t seen Maryland Deathfest: The Movie II, so for all I know, filmmaker David Hall knocked the ball out of the park the second go-round. And one way or the other, I respect that Hall is trying to do something different from most metal concert films, and I respect that Hall is working with some very cool bands (he’s also directed films for Today is the Day and Fuck the Facts) for what I’m assuming is pretty much no money. If your goal is to be a wealthy man, you don’t make documentaries about death metal festivals. Clearly, Hall loves his subject matter.

So I was pretty bummed to read “Don’t Be a Dick: A Tale of Indie Filmmaking, Extortion and MDF,” a guest post he wrote for The Deciblog today in which he tells the completely awful and depressing story of why the footage he shot at last month’s Maryland Deathfest 9 will never see the light of day.

FIRST TWELVE MINUTES OF MARYLAND DEATHFEST: THE MOVIE ARE NOT PROMISING

Friday, May 14th, 2010 at 2:30pm by

A deleted scene from Iron Man 2? Nope, just one of the many cinematically stimulating moments in Maryland Deathfest: The Movie

Alright, I kinda don’t wanna talk any shit about Maryland Deathfest: The Movie for a number of reasons. I don’t know David Hall, the dude who made it, but I know he’s worked with a lot of cool bands I like, including Fuck the Facts and Today is the Day. Scott Hull mastered the audio, and I don’t think it’s any secret that if Scott Hull asked me to walk a few feet ahead of him and sprinkle roses in his path, I would happily do so. Maryland Deathfest is clearly one of the best U.S. festivals in all of metaldom, and I don’t want anyone to think I’m speaking ill of that fine institution, ’cause I ain’t. The first twelve minutes of the movie premiered earlier today at Metal Injection, and the Metal Injection dudes are like brothers to me, so I don’t want anyone to think that I’m disparaging that site. And I certainly don’t want anyone to think I’m trashing any of the artists in the movie, ’cause they really had nothing to do with its creation.

With all of that said, those first twelve minutes of this movie really do not make me wanna see the next twelve minutes.

DISGORGE, MEXICO THE MOVIE: THE CLIP

Thursday, November 5th, 2009 at 4:30pm by

Remember Disgorge, Mexico, that weird ass looking movie I was talking about that was directed by David Hall and inspired by the Fuck the Facts album of the same title? Well, our PLPs (platonic life partners) over at Metal Injection have debuted a clip from the film, and – not exactly shocking – it’s weirder than Nergal singing country music. Check it, yo:

The song is “Kelowna,” by the way. If you can’t figure the name of the band that recorded it or which album it appears on, well, then, congratulations – you are a ree-ree and you can now go collect some disabilities payments from the government.

FUCK THE FACTS, HERE’S DISGORGE, MEXICO THE MOVIE

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009 at 2:30pm by

Did anyone see Today is the Day’s Axis of Eden DVD? I only got to see some of it, but it was some pretty trippy shit, and clearly there was a mind behind it that was as willing to think outside the box as TITD main man Steve Austin.

That mind belonged to filmmaker David Hall, who now returns with Disgorge, Mexico, a film based on the album of the same name (minus the comma) by Fuck the Facts (read our review of that record here). A press release tells us the following about the flick:

Described by Hall as “a substance abuse art house riff on the destructive and volatile nature of love,” Disgorge, Mexico: The Movie is a violent, hallucinatory depiction of one woman’s strange journey, set to the soundtrack of Fuck The Facts’ Disgorge Mexico.

Costumes for the film were created by Nekro, known for her costume design work for Arch Enemy’s Angela Gossow.

Plus, Agoraphobic Nosebleed’s Jay Randall (who is easily one of the best tweeters in the world) says that “It’s like your eye is a cock, balls deep in a peyote button butthole.” So there’s that.

Disgorge, Mexico doesn’t have an official release date yet, but it should be out soon on DVD and as a digital download. You can check out the trailer by clicking the image below. If said image doesn’t make you extrememly curious, something is wrong with you.
