GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS FROM DREAMING DEAD

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011 at 1:00pm by

I was pretty bummed a few weeks ago when Dreaming Dead’s new album, Midnightmares, wasn’t actually released on November 1 like it was s’posed to be. And there was no immediate statement from the band explaining where the heck the album was, so, y’know. Double bummer.

Now the band’s website says that Dreaming Dead “have postponed the street date to sometime in 2012.” No further information regarding the cause of the delay, or a more specific new release date for the album, has been given. So, uh, that’s kinda yucky.

The good news, though, is the band has released a video for a new song from Midnightmares, “Lapse.” And it’s not the best video ever made or anything, but it does allow us to hear some new Dreaming Dead, which can’t be a bad thing, right?

Check out the clip below and see what you think…

A “MIDNIGHTMARE” IS ACTUALLY PROBABLY A NICE CHANGE FROM DREAMING DEAD, NO?

Friday, September 9th, 2011 at 10:00am by

Dreaming Dead’s last release, Within One, was our own Satan Rosenbloom’s pick for the best album of 2009, and Satan has excellent taste, so his endorsement should a) make you wanna get into Dreaming Dead, and b) make you wanna hear whatever they release next. And, hey, good news! Their new, still-to-be-titled album will be out later this year on Ibex Moon.

And, hey, BETTER news! They’ve released a demo from that album, for the song “Midnightmare,” which you can stream here. It’s pretty rockin’, too; the guitar interplay is nice and evil, but I’m especially digging Mike Caffell’s drums. In fact, it’s hard for me to imagine what complaint any modern death metal fan would lob against it. It certainly makes me wanna listen to more.

Headbang here, then let us know what you think in the comments section. We’ll bring you more news on Dreaming Dead’s latest offering as we get it…

CINEMETAL ROUND-UP: NEW VIDEOS FROM MUNICIPAL WASTE, TRIPTYKON, AND DREAMING DEAD,

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010 at 12:00pm by

Hey, it’s time for another edition of “Cinemetal Round-Up,” in which I lump a bunch of new metal videos together rather than write individual posts for each one! YYYYAAAAAYYYYY!!!!

First up today we have Triptykon’s video for “Shatter,” the title track from their new, five-song EP, which comes out next week. I don’t know what to say about about this video other than “It looks really, really cool.” Tom G. Warrior apparently came up with the concept himself, which shouldn’t surpirse anyone, and director Philipp Hirsch did an awesome job with the execution. It’s a great song, too! If you love it as much as we do, check back later today for more extra-special Triptykonian goodness, exclusively here at MetalSucks.

ROSE FUNERAL: THE UNO INCIDENT?

Monday, February 22nd, 2010 at 12:30pm by

NOTE: Devin Shidaker is no longer in Rose Funeral, even though for some reason he’s still listed as a member on the band’s MySpace page. Our apologies for including his name when we initially ran this story.

UPDATE: A source very close to the band tells us that this entire story is true. So that sucks. Original story follows…

Alright. So we’ve been getting e-mails about this since Thursday, and Vince and I struggled with whether or not to run anything about it because, well, the internet can be a terrible place full of nonsense, and we have no way to verify whether or not this event ever actually occurred. But now we’ve gotten so many e-mails about it, it seems like we have to say something.

Still, two disclaimers before we move forward:

  1. This should be treated as an unsubstantiated rumor until further notice. Like I said, we’re currently unable to verify if there’s any truth to this story or not.
  2. We’re not making any judgments, positive or negative, about Rose Funeral’s music. Whether or not we or anybody else thinks they’re a good band or not is the very definition of “beside the point” in this instance. The point is whether or not one or more members of the band did something really heinous.

And with that being said, here’s the story, as described to us via various e-mails from people who claim to have been present when this all went down…

IMMOLATION NOT IMMOLATING SOUND QUALITY ON NEW TRACK*

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010 at 1:01pm by

immolationThis ain’t exactly new news anymore, but I’ve been away for over a week so cut me some slack ok? NYC death metal OGs Immolation have a new song called “The Purge” posted on their MySpace page and it absolutely rips assholes, scrotums and vaginas. Sonically it sounds much better than anything they’ve done in the past and the playing is cleaner too — I haven’t heard their whole new record Majesty and Decay yet, but if the rest of it is this good then consider my psyched.

Majesty and Decay comes to the U.S. March 9th (and March 5th everywhere else), so we’ve only got to wait a little under 2 months to hear the rest of the Immolation pummeling. Immolation are currently bruising bodies all across the U.S. on the MetalSucks-sponsored Those Whom the Gods Detest Tour alongside Nile, Krisiun and Dreaming Dead (click for dates).

* I had to look up the meaning of “immolate” on Dictionary.com before writing this headline. True story.

THE METALSUCKS-SPONSORED NILE TOUR IS ALSO UNDERWAY!

Thursday, January 21st, 2010 at 2:30pm by

Because Vince is in LA and I had a familial obligation, we totally missed the NY stop of this killer tour… But the now Abigail Williams-free, and the rest of the lineup is killer – Nile, Immolation, Krisiun and Dreaming Dead? That sounds like an awesome night of death metal to me.

Here’s some fan-filmed footage from the aforementioned NYC date, which I spotted on Blabbermouth. Get a complete list of remaining tour dates after the jump!

ABIGAIL WILLIAMS HAVE DROPPED OFF THE NILE / IMMOLATION TOUR…

Friday, January 15th, 2010 at 10:29am by

nile, immolation, krisiun, dreaming dead… and the lineup is that much stronger for it, if you ask us, because they were kind of the odd band out on this tour anyway. Seems that drummer Ken Meyers has been injured, but no other details have been released.

The MetalSucks-sponsored U.S. trek also features Krisiun and Dreaming Dead, the latter of whom Axl recently realized are the cats pajamas and then some. The tour kicks off TODAY in Baltimore, so make sure you check the list of dates after the jump to see when it rolls through your town.

SATAN ROSENBLOOM SAYS ADIOS TO 2009

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010 at 12:50pm by

amesoeurs-amesoeurs-2009One of the best things about seeing all the MS contributors’ year-end lists is getting tips about which 2009 albums I wasn’t listening to that I should have been. In Satan Rosenbloom’s case, those albums included Dreaming Dead’s Within One, an excellent release I basically allowed to sit on my desk for most of the year ’cause I’m dumb like that, and, especially, Amesoeurs’ self-titled album, which is barely metal but I listened to constantly over the break.

I’m saying that Mr. Rosenbloom has good taste, and now he’d like to share some of it with you: over at his own blog, Cerebral Metalhead, he’s compiled a 2009 year-end mix – aptly titled Cerebral Metalhead’s Adios to 2009 Metal Mix – which I highly recommend you download. There’s a lot of awesome shit on it, at least some of which I’d wager you either didn’t listen to or didn’t even know about last year. And, y’know, I’ll give my usual spiel and remind you that it’s free and the worst case scenario is you delete it from your computer/iPod/whatever.

Get the mix here. Totally worth it.

BTBAM_tourpostermetal as art 2010 hypno5e revocation the binary code

This winter is shaping up to a great incredible one for U.S. metal tours. The European Summer festivals ain’t got nothin’ on us… ok, well yeah they do, but this winter’s U.S. metal tour slate is still most excellent.

There’s the much ballyhooed Between the Buried and Me / Cynic / The Devin Townsend Project / Scale the Summit North American Orgasm Tour, about which Axl shared his man-juice excitement yesterday. On January 15th death metal Egyptologists Nile kick off their mammoth Those Whom the Gods Detest Tour with Immolation, Krisiun, Abigail Williams and Dreaming Dead. Only five days later Arch Enemy embark on the MetalSucks-sponsored Tyrants of Evil Tour with Exodus, Arsis and Mutiny Within. The Pagan/Folk metal tour du jour this Winter is headlined by Korpiklaani with Tyr, Swashbuckle and White Wizzard in tow (the latter of whom are certainly not pagan or folk). And tomorrow The Metal As Art Tour featuring Hypno5e, Revocation and The Binary Code kicks off in Brooklyn and traverses the country for 31 days. Yowza!

Full lists of dates and venues for all four tours are posted after the jump. There’ve been a few venue changes so make sure you double-check… then feel free to bitch about how none of these tours are coming to your city and proceed to blame us.
