HIPPIE-DIPPY JAMBAND OPETH TO PLAY THIS YEAR’S BONNAROO FESTIVAL

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011 at 4:20pm by

Brrrrraaaaaahhhhhh…………it’s 4:20 on 4/20!!!!  Ganjaleel?

Speaking of trippy-hippie-nings — I’ve never been to ten year-old Bonnaroo, but I imagine it’s not too much different from most jamband fests I have attended in my day.  Sure, the ‘roo offers a bit more diversity than its twice-baked counterparts, but c’mon you can’t convince me of your multi-faceted-ness just cuz you got Eminem & The Sword.  Really, Bonnaroo — really?  However, looking over the lineup I can’t just write it off as a larger, more commercialized jamband fest, since the bookers did in fact happen to lock in many indie/alternative acts that are pretty awesome.  So…..let’s call it a draw.

In the metal realm, nitrous abusers can enjoy aforementioned The Sword, Primus, Kylesa, and ultimate stony bros OpethWhoa.

I’d be curious to see how all the white dreadlock’d mofos hacky-sackin at the ‘roo might react to Mikael’s death growl, but naturally the psychedelic-imbibers will revel in the acoustic/heady parts.

“Dude…….this is like, totally hardcore metal — but it’s not…”

Although — Baroness played last year and the kids seemed to dig it.  Wanna see the softest mosh pit ever?

Don’t get too stoned today.

EMINEM VS. BLACK SABBATH

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010 at 2:30pm by

Last week I posted a pretty awful mash-up of Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” and some random, generic metal riff, which, to my surprise, a lot of you actually seemed to dig. So I’ll be curious to see what you think of “Going Through Changes” a new Eminem track that samples – duh – Black Sabbath’s “Changes.”

Now, as I’ve said, I don’t really have anything against Eminem, and I actually think this song is okay… although I honestly find the Ozzy vocals to be kind of out of place. More successful, I think, was the track “Sing for the Moment,” which sampled Aerosmith’s “Dream On”…

I WISH THIS MASH-UP WOULD LOSE ITSELF

Holy crap. I don’t even really mind some of Eminem’s older stuff, which can be a lot of fun, given the right circumstances (namely forties, weed, and a bunch of white dudes feeling nostalgia for ten years ago). But this if AWFUL. I mean, it’s still better than Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park, mostly ’cause Eminem is a wwwwaaayyyy better rapper than Fred Durst or Mike Shitoda, but that’s like saying it’s better to lose your finger than your entire hand, y’know?

TRENT REZNOR WORKING ON NEW NINE INCH NAILS AND NEW NOT NINE INCH NAILS

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010 at 4:30pm by

NNIN

When Trent Reznor waved good-bye to touring last year, he never said he was waving good-bye to Nine Inch Nails, too; he was basically just going the “studio only” route. So I’m not surprised that Reznor is working on a new Nine Inch Nails album for 2010.

The second part of this statement from the NIN website, in which he announces new music from NNIN (Not Nine Inch Nails), does kinda surprise me, though:

Sorry I haven’t been around much lately, I’ve been working on not working for a couple of months, which for me is hard work. 2010 has a number of things planned including new material from nine inch nails and something else that isn’t nine inch nails.

“Something else that isn’t Nine Inch Nails.” What could it be? I’d love for that Tapeworm album to finally see the light of day, but that can’t be it. And I imagine talk of that collaboration with Dr. Dre probably died right around the time Eminem got famous.

Wait, I know what it is, I KNOW WHAT IT IS!!! Trent Reznor is the new singer for Velvet Revolver!!!

No, wait, that can’t be right.

Hopefully we’ll get more details soon…

EMINEM PULLS BRET MICHAELS’ WIG OFF

Friday, April 17th, 2009 at 12:00pm by

Well, not exactly, but he does take a shot at Michaels and Michaels’ blatant baldness in his new video for “We Made You.” I don’t think the song is any good, but I’m always appreciative of a good Bret Michaels joke.
