PHOTO CAPTION CONTEST: WIN A TEST-PRESSING OF THE NEW FORMER THIEVES ALBUM

Thursday, February 9th, 2012 at 4:30pm by

Last week we gave away a bunch more limited edition shirts from The Metal Suckfest designed by Rodney Githens of Vertebrae 33. These five people are gonna super-stoked when their shirts arrive in the mail:

  • Autohagios: “The only instance where being black won’t help you be better at sports.”
  • Dozer: “Nothing new. The NBA is full of elitists.”
  • Sacajawea: “His coach told him to ‘go hard in the paint’.”
  • DPE: “Anyone up for a game of Norse?”
  • David B.: “The new sport of Casket Ball”

Special congrats to Sacajawea, who has now won a whopping nine Photo Caption Contests over the years!

This week we’re giving away a test-press LP (photo) of the new Former Thieves album The Language That We Speak out now on No Sleep Records, along with a poster (photo) of the same. Yuuuuuuuup: leave a comment with the funniest caption to the photo below (found on the Interhole by yours truly). Remember to use a real email address (or post it along with your comment if you’re logged in with your Facebook or Twitter account).

EVERY TIME I DIE ARE TOURING

Thursday, December 15th, 2011 at 11:20am by

So it seems like potentially-excellent 2012 tours are now being announced left and right — no joke, this is the second of four consecutive posts about tour itineraries you’ll see on MetalSucks this morning. Of course, this is a terrific problem to have; no one ever laid on their death bed and thought, “I saw too many awesome rock concerts,” y’know?

So… Every Time I Die! They’ve announced a headlining trek which will feature Terror, Stray from the Path, and Former Thieves. ETID and Terror are both terrific, in my estimation; I’m not really a Stray from the Path fan, but I’ve also never seen them live, and Vince says they’re great; and I don’t know Former Thieves. I guess my point is, all in all, this seems like it could be a really fun night at the opera. And now that ETID is breaking out new songs live (like the one above, “Underwater Bimbos from Outer Space”), you’ve got some extra incentive to check this tour out.

GO SEE THE CHARIOT

Josh Scogin - The Chariot

In case your fall wasn’t already action-packed with awesome tours, The Chariot have announced a U.S. headlining run, which will start in November. Support will come from Vanna, The Crimson Armada, Former Thieves, and Listener, four bands I can’t really say anything about. But I can reiterate the message in my headline: Go see The Chariot, go see The Chariot, go see The Chariot, please please please do yourself a favor and go see The Chariot.

OPTION PARALYSIS: IN THE STUDIO WITH FORMER THIEVES

Thursday, April 28th, 2011 at 1:00pm by

Getting into the studio to record an album should be a pretty exciting time for any young band. However, this process is replete with numerous pitfalls, challenges, and — as demonstrated in the video above — options. The subject, Former Thieves, play hardcore in an angular and perpetually irate manner, leveraging hooks and shouts in relatively equal parts. Yet choosing which gear to record with can be an torturous choice — even if you do so in a tongue-in-cheek manner. But really, why are you wasting time watching me describe a video you can click on and watch yourself?

The studio sessions above produced The Language That We Speak, their full length debut for No Sleep Records that just dropped last week. Fans of groups like The Carrier or Defeater best not snooze (get it?) on this one, especially since Former Thieves are hitting the road with both of those artists (albeit at different times) in May and June. Check out the tour dates below the cut.
