WELL, AT LEAST SOMEONE FROM GOD FORBID WILL GET TO PLAY WITH METALLICA

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009 at 3:51pm by

doccoylemetallica

It’s no secret that pretty much every band in metal wants to open for Metallica, even if that band’s best days are behind them – and God Forbid are no exception. Since we consider GF like family around the mansion, seeing them fulfill one of their ambitions and get to open for ‘Tallica would be pretty swell.

For better or worse, for right now we’re going to have to settle for Doc Coyle opening for Metallica.

IN WHICH WE DESTROYED PIGS

Friday, July 31st, 2009 at 5:30pm by

Now the nausea’s
In my guts
And I’m wrestling with doubt
The kind you get when your heroes
Sell you out
And as I watch the drawbridge come down
There’s mass extinction
On my mind
Human cruelty stains my thoughts jet black
I’ve got this feeling
Like things have gone too far and now we can’t get back

Here’s more fun shit that happened in the world of metal this week:

Vince gets back from vacation tonight right around the time Repulsion take the stage, and then tomorrow, hopefully, Craig’s List will lead us to some Tool tickets. See ya Monday!

THE HARD R: DALLAS COYLE ANSWERS MORE OF YOUR QUESTIONS

Monday, July 27th, 2009 at 5:00pm by

The Hard R with Dallas Coyle
For my last blog, I decided to do a question and answer session with “The Hard R.” I thought I was going to get a couple of questions, but the amount that came in were pretty mind-blowing. The cool thing is you have real questions about the business, and I think I can shed some light on certain things. I never said I’m an expert but I can use my experiences to shed light on some of these questions. As far as my boy Sven asking about Coyle Media, I’ll break it down for you.

Alright, people. I feel like fucking death. I just wanna go lie down and hopefully never wake up. Let’s get this over with:

We’ll be at Summer Slaughter on Sunday. If any of you spot us and want to buy us a drink, please, for the love of all things holy, don’t.

THE HARD R: DALLAS COYLE ANSWERS YOUR QUESTIONS

Monday, July 13th, 2009 at 5:00pm by

The Hard R with Dallas Coyle

I hope you guys enjoyed the 21 Best Metal Albums of the 21st Century… So Far. I thought it was awesome that it got so much feedback, and shows that the site is really picking up steam. I was drawn to this site because of the humor and I think it’s coming into it’s own. I called to ask them for the blog and they were gracious enough to say, ‘yes.’ Now that I’m not in God Forbid, they may feel gyped!

With that said, a lot of my blogs have been controversial, and with me leaving God Forbid, everyone is wondering why I still have a blog here. I’ve wondered the same thing. I want to help people out in the biz the best way I can. So for a while I’m going to make this blog a question and answer sort of thing. You can ask any question but if it’s stupid, I won’t answer. If it asks about my decision to leave GF, I won’t answer. Those questions don’t help anyone. Post your questions in the comments section and I’ll try and answer as many relevant ones as possible. I will keep it up weekly if the questions keep coming.

On a side note, I am working on new music that is turning out to be pretty bad ass. Axl and Vince have heard some of the stuff, although rough, and it’s pretty heavy. The vocals are all singing. Think Gojira mixed with Alice In Chains. I’m diggin’ it, bigtime!

OK, on to some questions.

A METALSUCKS MANIAC REPORTS ON GOD FORBID WITH WICKLUND, TRIVIUM WITH DOC

Monday, July 13th, 2009 at 3:00pm by

After last week’s announcement that ex-Himsa axeman Matt Wicklund would be playing with God Forbid on this summer’s Mayhem Fest and that God Forbid’s Doc Coyle would be filling in on bass for Trivium for at least one show, I expressed interest in hearing from any readers who caught the gig.

Well, one of you, Ryan Wineman, did indeed e-mail me over the weekend. Here’s his report:

FUNNY PHOTO CAPTION CONTEST: WIN A GUITAR SIGNED BY GOD FORBID! (AND OTHERS?)

Thursday, June 4th, 2009 at 6:00pm by

black metal kidsCongrats to “canea” for winning last week’s funny photo caption contest. Canea gets a limited edition super-sweet Sunn O))) double-disc vinyl set of their new album Monoliths and Dimensions, which came out last week. The winning entry:

“I come for your jellybeans. But only the black ones.”

This week we’re giving away a guitar signed by God Forbid. But here’s the cool part; the guitar also has a bunch of other signatures on it. We’re guessing they’re by some past or present Century Media artists, as CM has been kind enough to donate the guitar for this contest — but who knows? It could be Brian Fair, it could be Jeff Loomis, or it could be some schmuck in the mailroom who thought it’d be funny to sign the guitar. Maybe you can figure it out: check out pictures of the guitar here, here and here. But regardless, it’s got God Forbid signatures so that’s pretty fuckin’ cool, right?

Come up with a funny caption to the below photo and the guitar shall be yours.

GOD FORBID WE NOT POST ABOUT THE NEW GOD FORBID VIDEO

Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 4:34pm by

You didn’t really think we’d let the release of God Forbid’s new video for “War of Attrition” pass us by, did you? Of course you didn’t. At the MetalSucks Mansion few things are certain outside of death, taxes, and God Forbid news.

Check out our recent interview with Doc Coyle at New England Metal and Hardcore Fest, and while you’re at it read Dallas Coyle’s latest blogs too.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH AS I LAY DYING GUITARIST NICK HIPA

Thursday, May 28th, 2009 at 1:47pm by

as i lay dying nick hipaMy final interview at last month’s New England Metal and Hardcore Festival in Worcester, MA was with As I Lay Dying guitarist Nick Hipa. I’d met Nick earlier in the day at an industry hang at which he told me he was a huge fan of the site. We instantly hit it off, so by the time our scheduled interview rolled around there were no awkward moments. When I approached him while he was warming up in the back lounge of the band’s spiffy tour bus we got right to it. Nick spoke about the band’s past appearances at Metalfest, touring with Lamb of God, partying with Children of Bodom, the advantages of having a nice tour bus, the band’s recently released DVD, and their plans for a new album in early 2010.

For more New England Metal and Hardcore Festival interview coverage, check out my festival wrap, as well as my interviews with J. Costa of Thy Will Be Done, Peter Dolving of The Haunted, Doc Coyle of God Forbid, Jonathan and Billy from Unholy, Josh and Troy from Cattle Decapitation, and Chris Arp of Psyopus.

My interview with As I Lay Dying’s Nick Hipa, after the jump.

THE HARD R: WHY ARTISTS DESERVE TO HAVE A VOICE BEYOND THEIR ART

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 at 4:34pm by

The Hard R with Dallas CoyleWhy Should We Shut Up?

When I say ‘We’ I’m talking about the people out there who take their blood and put it to paper, celluloid or a digital hard drive. Seriously, why should we stop putting creations out there for everyone to judge? Do you honestly think that an artist doesn’t have any other thoughts or opinions but their art? It’s unfair, it’s nasty and I’m here to tell you we’ve got shit to say. It’s just sad that artists, musicians and filmmakers are maligned when they have something real to say. It may not be right but it’s as much from the heart as the art we create.

It’s about time the mentality of ‘entertain me and that’s it’ stops. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m wrong a lot of the time. I’ve predicted things right and I’ve predicted things wrong. But here’s the rub, when you put yourself out there you’re bound to fuck up more times than not. I learn more from my failures than I do from my successes. When you fail you realize your shit DOES stink, badly.

Look at my Terminator Salvation blog: I was wrong! Dead wrong! I didn’t see the movie but I don’t want to from the feedback I’ve seen. At least I had the balls to say what I thought. It was about a movie, but I said it, I lived with it, and I now admit I was wrong. It takes more to do that than to sit silent. I don’t mind being the butt of jokes or insults. It keeps me grounded to know I am flawed.

IN WHICH WE BROKE OUT EARLY FOR THE THREE DAY WEEKEND

Friday, May 22nd, 2009 at 2:00pm by

Vince is in Kentucky scouting land for a SECOND MetalSucks Mansion and against the advice of Gary Suarez and my own instincts, I’m off to see Terminator Salvation. We shan’t be posting Monday ’cause it’s Memorial Day, but we’ll be back Tuesday. In the meantime, here’s some shit that happened this week:

As Baz would say, “I’ll be Bach.”

GOD FORBID’S DOC COYLE SPEAKS WITH METALSUCKS “ON THE RECORD” (WHATEVER THAT MEANS)!

Monday, May 18th, 2009 at 5:40pm by

doc coyle god forbidAt this point in the annals of MetalSucks history, an official interview with God Forbid is weird. Interviewing Doc Coyle “on the record” is kind of like interviewing your mom about her performance as your mother; like, are you truly getting the full skinny? But God Forbid are like family to us, and Doc was his usual self; honest, level-headed and frank. At New England Metal and Hardcore Festival last month, Doc told us what led to Dallas’ split from the band, how things with his replacement Kris Norris (of Darkest Hour) are going, the band’s current and future touring plans, critical response to Earthsblood, and breaking into the European market. Our chat, after the jump.

ARE THERE ANY OF YOU WHO STILL DON’T OWN GOD FORBID’S EARTHSBLOOD?

Friday, May 8th, 2009 at 10:32am by

Release schedules being as hectic as they are these days, it’s sometimes hard for all of us here at the MetalSucks Mansion to keep pushing albums we love in the months following their initial release.

So all of that being said, this is a friendly reminder that we think God Forbid’s Earthsblood is the shit, and if for some reason you still haven’t checked it out, you need to. Seriously. Go do it, we’ll wait here for you.

I’ll be seeing God Forbid along with Lamb of God, As I Lay Dying, Children of Bodom and Municipal Waste tomorrow night in Philly (Ha-HA! You thought I was gonna say “tonight in NY,” didn’t you?). I am actively seeking drinking partners. Drop me a line if you’re gonna be there.

In the meantime, here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the making of God Forbid’s new video, “War of Attrition,” which should be released soonish.

DALLAS COYLE ON THE NEW TERMINATOR MOVIE, CHRISTIAN BALE, AND THE DESENSITIZATION OF SOCIETY (OH YEAH: AND HIS SPLIT FROM GOD FORBID)

Thursday, April 30th, 2009 at 5:20pm by

The Hard R with Dallas Coyle

The Rise Of Extremism and Terminator Salvation

A lot of you complained about my last blog and how I didn’t talk about metal and my decision to leave God Forbid. Unfortunately, some people just don’t get how certain things relate to each other and it’s not my job to help the short bus kids along. Don’t look in the mirror. I don’t want you to think I’m talking about you. You’re not that important. With that said, my Susan Boyle blog was completely metal and did relate to me exiting God Forbid even if I left before Susan Boyle became famous. It like Tupac making videos and albums after he was shot to death. We all know Tupac lives. He really does!

I’m going to talk about the most metal thing ever. Extremism and Terminator Salvation. If you saw the Terminator Salvation trailer before it was rated PG-13 you probably thought it was going to be the best movie ever. That trailer is absolutely bad-ass.

Here it is:

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM DALLAS COYLE REGARDING SPLIT FROM GOD FORBID

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009 at 7:09pm by

Dallas Coyle has spoken to MetalSucks exclusively about his split from God Forbid earlier this week. Dallas would like the metal community to know that his split from the band has nothing to do with any familial issues with his brother, but that he has decided to leave the band for personal reasons. Beyond that, he wishes to remain quiet at the time and asks that his privacy be respected.

DALLAS COYLE OFFICIALLY OUT OF GOD FORBID

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009 at 2:55pm by

Here’s a statement from Doc Coyle:

“There have been a barrage of rumors and questions on whether or not Dallas has left God Forbid. It’s true that Dallas has left the band. It’s taken us a few days to confirm this definitely, and figure out what we were going to do considering the fact that we are starting a very important tour with Lamb of God this week.

As huge God Forbid fans ourselves, we understand your desire to know what the situation is ASAP. At this time, we do not know any more than you do. We trust that there will be a statement clarifying the situation in good time. In any case, when we know more, you will.
