Joe Fey is the winner of last night’s mystery prize from Century Media/dreidel from MetalSucks. Joe not only correctly named thrash legends Exodus as sharing a name with a book and movie adaptation chronicling a chapter of Jewish history, but he was able to name said book’s author (Leon Uris) and the movie’s star (Paul Newman) and even its director (Otto Preminger). Mazel Tov to MetalSucks Maniac Houston Cairns, who not only correctly answered night 1’s trivia question by identifying guitarist Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal as a Jewish musician who plays on Guns N’ Roses’ Chinese Democracy, but even knew that Mr. Thal’s name is actually “Ronald J. Blumenthal” (the “J” is for “Jew,” or so Sue Grafton tells us). Houston (who really, really needs to meet our pal Dallas) wins a mystery prize, courtesy the good folks at Century Media, plus a dreidel.

Ahh, Hannukkah. The Festival of Lights. Like every Jewish holiday, is ostensibly boils down to “They tried to kill us, we lived, let’s eat!” Which, when you think about it, really is as good a reason to celebrate and exchange gifts as any.

So for the second year in a row now, MetalSucks is teaming up with Century Media to bring you Heavy Metal Hannukkah. Every night for the next eight nights, we’re gonna ask a trivia question that relates to both metal and Judaism. Of everyone who gets it right, we’ll randomly select one winner to receive an awesome mystery prize from Century, as well as – what else? – a dreidel. We kick off the first night with this trivia question:

• Name at least one musician who plays on Guns N’ Roses Chinese Democracy that is Jewish by birth. For bonus points, tell us what his or her last name was before it was gentrified.
