HOW DOES THIS MASH-UP OF VAN HALEN’S “JUMP” AND JOHN LENNON’S “IMAGINE” WORK SO WELL?!?

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011 at 11:30am by

Yeah, you read that right: some dude calling himself “Mighty Mike” mashed-up two classics that, on the surface, have absolutely, positively no business whatsoever being smushed together. And yet, this must be one of the best mash-ups I’ve ever heard. It works so well, my mind is just reeling right now.

Check out the epic awesomeness below.

COREY TAYLOR WANTS YOU ALL TO TELL HIM WHO HE IS

Thursday, June 10th, 2010 at 2:00pm by

Under normal circumstances I might be inclined to make fun of “Mission Statement,” the first new song we’ve heard from Stone Sour’s upcoming Audio Secrecy; but coming after the putrid waste of everything that is the new Methods of Mayhem song, it sounds like it was written by a super-group consisting of Saint-Saëns, John Lennon, and a young James Hetfield.

Actually, I keep thinking that it sounds like some 90′s alt-arena-rock band trying to do a Sepultura song. Which makes since, I guess, since Stone Sour really wanna be a 90′s alt-arena-rock band, the members of which probably all grew up on Sepultura.

You can download the song here if you want. It’s really nothing special (again, it’s Stone Sour, so no shocks there), but it’s free, so, uh, why not?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHN LENNON

Friday, October 9th, 2009 at 3:12pm by

He would have been 69 years old today.

I did an informal poll on Twitter to find good metal covers of Beatles songs, and while a number of people made creative suggestions and a lot of people were all into Beatallica n’ shit, the general consensus seemed to be that Motley Crue’s version of “Helter Skelter” still reigns supreme. So without further adieu…

Feel free to discuss your own favorite metal versions of songs originally by The Beatles below.

PANTERA LIVE IN MOSCOW, 1990 (OR: R.I.P. DIME)

Monday, December 8th, 2008 at 2:41pm by

Today marks the 4th anniversary of the shooting of Darrell “Dimebag” Abbott. Rather than wax ecstatic about what an awesome dude Dime was, or bore you to tears with a story about where I was when I found out about the death, or rail about how fucked up it is that a musician’s life would end in such a manner or how fucked it is that Dime’s legacy has been raped and pillaged in the name of money by everyone with the means to do so (all these things are true… they’ve just been completely beat to shit in the media)… I’d like to post my favorite Pantera video of all-time (“Cowboys From Hell” live in Moscow, 1990) and invite you all to share your Dime stories — of any kind — with us in the comments.

R.I.P. Dime. The world lost a legend 4 years. Oh, what’s that… John Lennon also died on December 8th? All kidding aside, Dimebag is perhaps our metal generation’s John Lennon.
