THE OBAMA/MCCAIN PRESIDENTIAL THROWDOWN VIDEO CONTEST!

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008 at 3:00pm by MetalSucks

Election day is one week from today. At least one person thinks we should create a Neilstein/Rosenberg ticket for 2012. Any other takers?

But for the next four years until said ticket can take shape, we’re forced to choose between one of two men, Barack Obama or John McCain. And in my YouTube trawl to try and find something metal AND election-related to post here, I found… Nothing. We’d say metalheads are uncreative and lazy, but we know better, so we bring this one to you, the people.

Seeing as we’re equal opportunity haters, we invite you to create a mashup video using found footage of either Obama or McCain and sync it up to a metal song of your choosing. We’re thinking something like the below video would be pretty fucking cool if it were synced up to some Hatebreed instead of Rick fucking Astley. Be creative, ya hear? Then post your video on YouTube and post a link in the comments here. Easy-peasy! Two winners (one each for Obama and McCain) will get a stack of metal goodies we have lying around the MS Mansion. Have fun!

BLOGRONAUT: BRAINWASHED BY THE MEDIA

Yeah! Almost votin’ time! I mean boy, with my own life being so dull, the time for some good reality TV is definitely now. I can’t wait to see who steals THIS election! It’s looking tough, as the Republican side is playing hardball once again. Apparently, hundreds of absentee ballots were mailed out this week with an oh-so unfortunate typo in the presidential category, reading “Barack Osama.” Some very official person came forward to say that it was merely a typo and not intentional. Are you fucking kidding me? I’m not even suggesting it was necessarily a call made by the McCain campaign, but someone HAD to have premeditated that. The letters B and S aren’t even near each other on the keyboard! And for no one to proofread the official absentee ballots? Ah well, so what if Obama’s name is misspelled on the ballot. I’m sure it will still be a nice and fair election, because who would actually let a typo slip into their consciousness and affect their judgment of character?

DALLAS APOLOGIES FOR CALLING MCCAIN A RACIST, EXAMINES THE FUTURE OF GOD FORBID

Thursday, October 16th, 2008 at 4:43pm by Dallas Coyle

Mistakes

Last week’s blog was a fiery debate about politics, racism and the age old subject of musicians keeping their mouth shut and just sticking to music. As most of you know, I don’t adhere to the policy of musicians or artists keeping their mouths shut about politics whether they’re informed or not. I think people should be able to say what they want especially if they are given a platform to do so.

I will admit, my words about McCain’s comment were said out of anger and I stepped over the line. For that I apologize and I will say I made a mistake in charging McCain and his supporters with charges that aren’t necessarily true. If they are true I have no way of knowing so I concede the point that I was too harsh and I take my statements back in inferring that he may have deep rooted prejudices that will affect his style of governing.

I do think the debate on the blog last week was healthy and it was great to see people rage against me because of my regrettable comment. Someone said in a comment responding to the blog, ‘It’s better to be hated for who you are, than loved for who you are not.’ I’ll live by that standard and I can deal with it. I can fly off the handle and last weeks blog proved it.

IN WHICH WE WERE BETTER THAN “THAT ONE”

The economy’s in the shitter and the sun is setting earlier and earlier every day. Still, there was reason to rejoice this week in the world of metal:

Sayonara suckers. See you next week.

DALLAS COYLE ON JOHN MCCAIN’S “THAT ONE” GAFFE

Thursday, October 9th, 2008 at 4:53pm by Dallas Coyle

Here we go again. After the most boring debate in history we were given a McCain soundbite that will live on for the rest of the campaign. McCain’s derogatory remark of “that one” referring to Senator Obama was pretty much a game changer in my opinion. This little remark showed the inner nature of John McCain and the Republican, conservative base. “This is mine. You don’t deserve to be here, you people…”

When you look at a small remark such as “that one”, it makes me think about going to vote. I was going to vote for Obama regardless but back during the primaries I was one of those Obama supporters who would have considered McCain if Hillary Clinton were the nominee. Now as I think about it, I should have had my fucking head examined. McCain is harboring some deep prejudices regarding black people and it clearly showed in that remark.

Do you want a bigot in the highest office in the world? I know I don’t. The funny thing is I’m sure there were a good amount of presidents who were bigots behind closed doors, but we live in a new time and a new day and that aggression will not stand. The fact that McCain’s disposition toward Senator Obama reeks with disdain, contempt and disrespect shows me he is unfit to be a president. I’m going to say it. McCain is a fucking loser. And he’s a punk.

FOO FIGHTERS TELL JOHN MCCAIN TO FUCK OFF

Thursday, October 9th, 2008 at 12:00pm by Axl Rosenberg

Okay, not quite. But I’d like to imagine that’s what they’re thinking.

According to The Huffington Post, Dave Grohl and company are not pleased that McCain has been using the Foo Fighters anthem “My Hero” for his campaign. A statement from the band reads as follows:

“The saddest thing about this is that `My Hero’ was written as a celebration of the common man and his extraordinary potential. To have it appropriated without our knowledge and used in a manner that perverts the original sentiment of the lyric just tarnishes the song.”

The band allegedly didn’t learn about McCain’s use of the song until they read about it in news reports.

So I guess the Foo Fighters won’t be touring with Sammy Hagar anytime soon, eh?
