EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH UNDEROATH BASSIST GRANT BRANDELL

Thursday, September 4th, 2008 at 2:00pm by MetalSucks

MetalSucks recently had the opportunity to have an all-too-brief chat with Underoath bassist Grant Brandell at the Rockstar Mayhem Festival’s stop at Nassau Coliseum on Long Island. Brandell had some interesting things to say about the tour, hanging out with other bands at the fest, and the band’s plans for the future. Check out the full transcript after the jump, then read David Bee Roth’s review of Underoath’s new album, Lost in the Sound of Separation, which was released earlier this week!

THE RED CHORD’S GUY KOZOWYK HUMORS METALSUCKS

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 at 1:00pm by MetalSucks

It wasn’t that long ago that we interviewed The Red Chord bassist Greg Weeks via e-mail, but since a) that interview turned out to be one of the best we’ve ever done and b) we love The Red Chord, we just couldn’t resist the chance to sit down with vocalist Guy Kozowyk at the Long Island stop of the Rockstar Mayhem Festival. Guy was happy, or at least very good at pretending to be happy, to talk to us about the tour, playing in front of such huge crowds, and the already legendary Ladder Up an Ass project, but, like his bandmate, he was also cool enough to humor Axl Rosenberg when he asked a stupid question on behalf of his girlfriend. Check out the full transcript of our chat after the jump.

ROCKSTAR MAYHEM FESTIVAL: SLIPKNOT ARE THE NEW KISS, MASTODON AND MACHINE HEAD STILL OWN, AND WALLS OF JERICHO PROVE SURPRISINGLY EFFECTIVE

Monday, August 18th, 2008 at 11:53am by Axl Rosenberg

A very, very, VERY special thanks to Rosa Henriquez for the awesome photos. Now we’re that much closer to being like a real big kids’ website!

I think one of the things Slipknot’s fans love most about them is one of the very same qualities that their detractors so violently hold against them: their theatricality. I mean, these are nine dudes who dress up in matching outfits and wear “spooky” masks. The band’s members talk about death metal an awful lot, and, musically speaking, that influence is certainly present. But aesthetically, they belong to a line of bands like Kiss and Motley Crue. They’re showmen.

EXCLUSIVE PICS OF LADDER UP AN ASS!

Monday, August 11th, 2008 at 11:10am by Axl Rosenberg

Wow. That headline could attract a lot of Google traffic from people with pretty weird sexual preferences, I imagine.

ANYWAY, last week we reported on “supergroup” Ladder Up an Ass, who easily stole the Nassau Coliseum stop of the Mayhem Fest (at least, for the hundred or so people who actually showed up to watch them). Lucky for all of us, MetalSucks’ very own resident rabbi, the all-knowing, all-seeing Anton OyVey, managed to snap some photos on his cell phone of the group in action. Check ‘em out:

It may slow in the doldrums of summer, but it’s always hot here at the MetalSucks Mansion. This week in metal:

See you Monday. Have a good one.

LADDER UP AN ASS: BEST SUPERGROUP EVER!

Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 11:37am by Axl Rosenberg

As Vince has already explained, we were at Mayhem Fest yesterday, and in the coming days we’ll have a full review, photos, interviews with everyone from Mastodon to Machine Head, and all that good stuff.

But really quickly, I just wanna talk about the highlight of the day’s activities – an incredible performance by a supergroup going by the moniker Ladder Up an Ass (And yes, it’s “an Ass,” not “the Ass” or “Your Ass” – it’s a non-specific ladder and a non-specific ass.). Because while some members of the band seemed to think it was a one-off performance, no one ruled the possibility of more surprise appearances on upcoming Mayhem dates. And if you go to Mayhem in the coming weeks and happen to hear that Ladder Up an Ass are playing, YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST DROP EVERYTHING AND GO SEE THEM.

RADIO SILENCE!

Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 1:32am by Vince Neilstein

Sorry for the lack of posting yesterday. Axl and I locked up the gates to the MetalSucks Mansion and hit the wilderness of Long Island for the Rockstar Mayhem Festival, witnessing the fury of 15,000 teens in Slipknot tees and the debut/final performance of the legendary band Ladder Up an Ass (seriously). The good news is we have a ton of interviews for ya’ll with just about every band on the bill… so hang tight as we get those typed up.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming…
