WOW, JOE LESTE REALLY IS A DRUNKARD

Friday, December 10th, 2010 at 12:40pm by

When Metal Sludge reminded us of its glory days last month with a new list of the Top 10 Drunkest Living Rock Stars of All Time I was surprised to see Bang Tango / Beautiful Creatures frontman Joe LeSte place #9. I mean it wouldn’t surprise me if he was a drunk, but could he really out-do Chris Holmes’ famous pool interview, ranked at #10?

Then I saw this footage, linked in the article:

Note his band members roll their eyes after being addressed as “fuckheads” following a minute of Joe’s drunken ranting. Followed by more ranting, more eye-rolling and a lame cover. With a missed intro cue. This video is sad in so many ways!

THE $LUDGE IS BACK! THE TOP 10 DRUNKEST (LIVING) ROCKSTARS OF ALL TIME

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010 at 11:00am by

So I get this email with the above headline as the subject from Metal Sludge’s Stevie Rachelle yesterday and I’m thinking to myself, “Woah, a Top Ten list from Metal Sludge? What, it has to have been like 8 or 9 years since they’ve done one of these! Say it’s so!” Then I click the link (duh), and lo and behold: “We have not done one of these TOP 10 lists in oh, about 8-9 years. So it’s way past due. Metal Sludge’s official Top 10 Drunkest (Living) Rock Stars of All Time!Alright! Party time! The Sludge is back!

And it’s just like the good ol’ days on Metal Sludge, rife with barbed insults, no punches pulled. Obviously most of the choices are pretty predictable — Vince “Skating Falling with the Stars” Neil is a drunkard, whodathunkit? and Perennial Sad Sack Steven Adler makes a nice showing for himself – but I don’t wanna ruin the rankings for you. Naturally W.A.S.P.’s Chris Holmes’ famous poolside interview, above, makes the cut too. Mandatory watching for those who haven’t seen it.

Hey kids: the tone and wit of Metal Sludge were a huge inspiration for this here metal blog, so do yer homework!

WHY DOESN’T NU METAL HAVE ITS OWN ANSWER TO METAL SLUDGE?

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008 at 12:17pm by

Yesterday an advanced copy of the album by a certain nu metal band that shall go unnamed arrived at the MetalSucks Mansion. “Why the fuck would they send us this?” Vince wondered aloud, noting that we have never, ever, ever had anything nice to say about this particular group.

“Dude,” I countered, “At least we write about them. That’s more than I can say for most sites.”

Which got me to thinking: is there no one carrying the nu metal torch?

A SCOTT HULL SOLO ALBUM IS SOMETHING TO GET EXCITED ABOUT

Thursday, April 24th, 2008 at 5:01pm by

requiem.jpgScott Hull is the fuckin’ man dude. Aside from his God-like contributions to Pig Destroyer, Agoraphobic Nosebleed and Anal Cunt (does this dude have a talent for being in bands with awesome names or what?), he also has some kind of top-secret government computer job, which probably means he’s reading this and ordering a wire tap on my phone even as I type this. Or, at the very least, that he’s the one responsible for hacking Metal Sludge. Scott Hull don’t suffer no Enuff Z’Nuff songs.

ANYWAYS, Lambgoat is now reporting that Hull has his first solo album, Requiem, coming out one June 10 in the US and June 16 everywhere else:

“According to Relapse, “Requiem sees Hull explore his long-time love for movies and cinema score in the form of a beautifully crafted piece of work’…

“Advance song titles from the album include: ‘Consequenze,’ ‘Visita all’ospedale,’ ‘Morte sul treno,’ and ‘Il funerale di Bonnie.’”

“Il funerale di Bonnie” is already the best song title I’ve heard all year. The other titles apparently translate to “Visit to the Hospital” and “Died on the Train,” which are, um, well, I dunno.

The audio samples currently avail on Hull’s MySpace page aren’t very grindy or even very metal at all – in fact, that hospital visit track kind of reminds me of a Tangerine Dream song – but I guess there’d be no point making a solo album if it was just gonna sound like Pig Destroyer without J.R. Hayes and Brian Harvey (and Blake Harrison, I suppose).

But here’s the really interesting part of this news: the cover art refers to the album as an “Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.” If Hull is making a movie to go with this music, I’ll pee myself.

IANN ROBINSON INTERVIEWS METALSUCKS EDITORS AXL AND VINCE

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008 at 12:55pm by

Iann RobinsonYou guys remember Iann Robinson, right? In addition to being an outspoken metalhead and presence in the scene, he was a VJ on MTV from 1999-2003 and wrote for Metal Sludge for a while as well. So naturally we were surprised when we received an interview request from NoneLouder, for whom Robinson is currently writing, for him to interview our own Axl and Vince. Yeah, that’s right, he interviewed us. Talk about opposite day.

Anyway, the interview ended up being hilarious. Iann asked us serious questions about our motivations for starting MetalSucks and our favorite albums of all time, and we told him all about our love for The Hun and Avril Lavigne. Read the whole interview here; it’s a good laugh.

METALSUCKS VS. METAL SLUDGE: REDUX

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008 at 4:51pm by

Metal SludgeBack in May, our own Axl Rosenberg wrote about the once mighty poo-flinging metal site Metal Sludge, how amazing it used to be, and its subsequent downfall in recent years:

“As of this writing, the site hasn’t been updated in over a month; alas, that’s actually not so unusual for them these days. But the result is that the site is starting to seem as old and faded as the rock stars it covers. I used to check the site on a daily basis to find who Nikki Sixx was cheating on his wife with now, how recently Steven Adler had gone down on some dude to score some smack, who was winning in the competition between Vince Neil and Jani Lane to become a fatter, drunker fuck, and look at pictures of Fred Durst looking like the dude from Flock of Seagulls; now, there’s almost never anything to check.”

Thanks to MetalSucks commenter ERiK for alerting us to a current thread on the Metal Sludge message board debating Rosenberg’s article. Not surprisingly, there seems to be some hate from the MetalSludgers directed our way. But need I call into question the legitimacy of any argument coming from people who 1) think L.A. Guns and Pretty Boy Floyd were great bands, and 2) still think L.A. Guns (pick a version) and Pretty Boy Floyd are great bands? Case closed.
