SLIPKNOT CONFIRMED AS MAYHEM FEST HEADLINERS

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012 at 10:30am by

Uh… whoops.

The full line-up for this year’s Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival isn’t scheduled to be unveiled until tomorrow — but a rep for Ibanez has now confirmed that the rumor that Slipknot will be one of the headliners on the this year’s installment of the tour. I don’t know if it was an accident and the guy didn’t realize he wasn’t supposed to say anything, or if he’s a marketing genius and he realized that letting the cat out of the bag early would get thousands of metal fans across the web to watch a video about the product he’s selling, but whatever I guess.

You can check out in the video below; the confirmation of Slipknot’s participating in the fest comes at about the ten second mark.

A source close to the festival told us over the weekend that several of the other rumored acts, including Slayer and Anthrax, will, indeed, also be on the this year’s bill. I guess we’ll find out for sure when the roster is officially announced tomorrow.

SLIPKNOT’S ALL HOPE IS GONE: ANOTHER STEP IN A NEW DIRECTION

Monday, August 25th, 2008 at 12:05pm by

Let the haters hate: Slipknot are a good band, and, more than that, they’re a good band that has show substantial growth from album to album – and their most recent release, All Hope is Gone, is no exception. Sonically, the record is something of a codification of everything the band has ever done, which means the Stone Sourisms (clean vocals, reasonably radio-friendly alt-rock anthems, moody power ballads, etc.) of Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses are here once again. Whether or not that’s a good thing, ultimately, will depend solely on the tastes of the listener.

NEW SLIPKNOT MASKS LOOK MORE OR LESS LIKE THE OLD SLIPKNOT MASKS

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008 at 11:07am by

Hey, did you know that there’s a Slipknot cover band called “Tonkpils” (which is just “Slipknot” spelled backwards)? It’s weird, but true. Go figure.

ANYWAY, Slipknot unveiled their new masks at 12:01 am last night (actually, that’s bullshit – it was more like 1 a.m. EST). Now, a pattern has emerged over the years with regards to these dudes and their masks: some of them do major variations on a theme from mask to mask, and some just pretty much stick to the same thing every time. The differences between incarnations of Jim Root and Mick Thompson’s masks, for example, are negligible, while Corey Taylor and Shawn “Clown” Crahan obviously like to get jiggy wit it.

HAPPY MONDAY. THERE’S A NEW SLIPKNOT SONG.

Monday, June 30th, 2008 at 10:45am by

Fuck, I hate fucking Mondays.

ANYWAY, last week a super shitty rip of the new Slipknot single, “Psychosocial,” leaked (and thanks to the 57,000 of you who e-mailed us said super shitty rip). Now Slipknot axemaster Mick “#7″ Thompson (who has the strongest, most bone crushing hand shake of anyone I’ve ever met) is hosting a stream of the entire song on his MySpace page, along with “All Hope is Gone,” the previously-released title track for the ‘Knot’s new album.

Look: right off the bat, I don’t like this song nearly as much as “All Hope is Gone.” It’s got way too much Stone Sour in it, and I don’t just mean Corey Taylor’s clean vocals. That being said, it’s not a bad song – in fact, if it’s the worst track on the new album, I say we’re in pretty good shape.

The track goes on sale digitally tomorrow; meanwhile, the band unveil their new masks tonight/tomorrow morning at 12:01 a.m. They were just gonna do it at midnight like any normal person would, but their manager thought that wasn’t douchey enough.
