JOEY JORDISON DOESN’T NEED A MASK TO LOOK ALL FREAKY

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010 at 9:31am by

So Joey Jordison has begun his stint as Rob Zombie’s temporary drummer at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards this past Thursday evening, and, of course, someone captured footage on the momentous occasion on their cellphone. I don’t have much to say about it, but I do wonder why Joey Jordison is bothering to wear his mask for these gigs; for one thing, it’s not like we haven’t all seen him without his mask at this point, and for another thing, even though Rob Zombie is a “shock rocker” (albeit not a very shocking one), it’s not like Joey doesn’t look plenty weird even without his mask. I mean, just look at that dude. Ladies, would you bring him home to meet mom? Probably not, right?

Here’s the video footage in question:

MICK MARS AND THE MURDERDOLLS

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010 at 4:00pm by

I’m confused. First, Murderdolls’ Joey Jordison and Wednesday 13 told Artist Direct that their new album, Women and Children Last, isn’t gonna be quite the hair-metal fest that their last album was…

Does Women and Children Last preserve that classic Sunset Strip attitude?

Wednesday 13: Kind of…the title more or less exists to piss people off. Even though I’m a hair metal fan, I’ve become a huge Slayer fan over the years. With the way the new Murderdolls music sounds, it’s everything from that Sunset Strip stuff to Slayer. It goes everywhere this time—whereas the first record was more punk rock.

Joey Jordison: I’m really excited about it. I think it’s actually going to reel in a lot of the Slipknot fans because of the heaviness. We’re not going to lose any fans; this album is only going to gain fans for us. We weren’t like, “Okay, we’re going to crank out some campy songs like we did before.”

…and then they announced that Mick Mars is doing a guest spot on the album, and released the following photo just to prove that Mick can still sit down is really in the studio with them:

Now, I love old Motley Crue and I love Slayer, but you’d never hear Mars play on Slayer album. So either Jordison and 13 (is that how I refer to him?) are full of cow poo, or this is going to be a really, really diverse sounding record. I sincerely hope it’s the latter.

And that’s the second time today I’ve mentioned Mick Mars and Slayer in one breath. Weird.

MURDERDOLLS: A REUNION NO ONE BUT ME WILL BE HAPPY ABOUT

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010 at 9:30am by

I’m exaggerating, of course. Someone besides me will be happy to hear that Murderdolls (not The Murderdolls – get it right, dick!) are getting back together. But he or she probably doesn’t read this website.

ROB ZOMBIE & JOEY JORDISON: A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN, A MATCH MADE IN HELL

Friday, March 5th, 2010 at 12:00pm by

Poor Joey Jordison must get bored when he’s not busy with Slipknot; besides Corey Taylor and Clown, he’s easily the most visible member of the band, even when they’re on hiatus (as they are right now). This is extra-amazing when you consider the fact that, unlike Taylor or Clown, he doesn’t really have a side-project: the one he started, Murderdolls, released one album in 2002, did a whole bunch of touring behind it, and then promptly broke-up. (MD vocalist Wednesday 13 recently hinted at a possible Murderdolls reunion, but that doesn’t actually seem to be happening.) But Jordison constantly manages to stay in the spotlight, be it through producing gigs (3 Inches of Blood’s Fire Up the Blades) or, more often, guest spots with other well-known bands: he recorded some drums for Otep’s House of Secrets (as though Otep didn’t sound enough like Slipknot already), toured with Ministry, and did a few tour dates with Satyricon before a couple of their members got arrested on a kiddie-sex charge and that trek was canceled.

And now it’s been announced that Jordison will spend the spring and summer playing for Rob Zombie.

REMEMBER THIS BAND?

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009 at 2:00pm by

I have no idea what made me think of them – maybe I saw a tranny in the Village or something, or maybe it was just writing about Dope, since half the members of Murderdolls started in Dope and then there was a ridiculous flame war between the two bands. But, uh, somehow they popped in my mind.

We all know what Joey Jordison is up to, and Blabbermouth tells me that Wednesday 13 still has something resembling a career. I see Acey Slade walking around the neighborhood sometimes, so I guess he’s still DJing at Don Hill’s or some shit. Actually, that guy used to spin pretty good, if you were in the mood for hair metal and 70s rawk. I have no idea what happened to the other d00ds in this band, though. In fact, I don’t even know what their names are.

I’d still rather listen to this than post-Feelgood Motley Crue. Or most Stone Sour, for that matter. If for some reason those were my only choices. I can’t imagine any scenario in which that happened, but, hey.
