PACK OF WOLVES NO LONGER A PACK, MUTINY WITHIN NOW WITHOUT

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011 at 12:00pm by

Two perennial MetalSucks faves, both of whom had seemingly bright futures ahead of them not very long ago, are calling it a day. Well, only one band is admitting they’re calling it a day, while the other is using that old “indefinite hiatus” chestnut, but let’s be real, every broken-up band is on “indefinite hiatus” until they’re not, so, uh, yeah.

ANYWAY, here’s the sad news:

IN WHICH, BELIEVE ME, SWEETIE, WE HAD ENOUGH TO FEED THE NEEDY

Friday, June 24th, 2011 at 5:00pm by

MetalSucks tipster extraordinaire Hetal Bhatt sent us the below video, and while it has nothing to do with metal, it did make me laugh, and I did forward it to friends. So, enjoy:

And on that note, here’s some stuff we did this week:

You’ve got one more week with me and me alone before Vince comes back. Deal with it, fuckers.

See ya Monday.

MUTINY WITHIN LOSE VOCALIST, KEYBOARDIST?

Monday, June 20th, 2011 at 10:30am by

Chris Clancy: Kissing us no longer.

Okay so here’s a story which is kinda crazy pretty much from start to finish.

Over the weekend, reader Hetal Bhatt sent us a link to a posting on Chris Clancy’s Facebook page, entitled “I am no longer the vocalist for Mutiny Within.” I e-mailed MW bassist Andrew Jacobs for a confirmation because Clancy is still listed as a member on the band’s official Facebook page, and in the wee hours of this morning, Jacobs e-mailed me back to say that the band is “putting together a statement” and that “there is a lot going on right now.”

And now Clancy’s Facebook post has been removed, which, y’know, I don’t think is a coincidence.

So while you can’t see Clancy’s statement on FB, you can read it below — the full text of that post follows, and whether or not you consider yourself a Mutiny Within fan, it’s worth reading, because it’s a fucking harsh look at the state of the modern metal business:

MUTINY WITHIN’S CHRIS CLANCY LOVES A WOMAN

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011 at 2:30pm by

We’re guessing any new Mutiny Within music isn’t gonna sound much like Percy Sledge… but however it turns out, this kid’s got pipes, right?

MUTINY WITHIN JUMP ON THE ANTOINE DODSON “BED INTRUDER” TRAIN

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010 at 10:30am by

I’m a total pop culture noob. Even though Axl posted a death metal version of Antoin Dodson’s “Bed Intruder” a few weeks back, he still had to explain to me what all the fuss is about. I get it now! I feel so cool.

The latest version of the now infamous track comes from New Jersey melodeathsters Mutiny Within. The musical treatment definitely sounds like MW, but the auto-tuned vocals make it sound all crunkcore or something. Which I suppose is the point.

I’d love to hear the bree-bree version of this track. If any enterprising MS readers want to take a stab at it I promise I’ll post it!

TAKE THE “HIGHWAY TO HELL” WITH MUTINY WITHIN

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010 at 12:34pm by

In the second AC/DC bit of news not directly related to the band in as many days — see also this video of a sign language interpreter’s “performance” of “Big Balls” — neo-Bodom metallers Mutiny Within have posted a cover of “Highway to Hell” available exclusively at SMNnews. I like how they start it off as a straight cover then kick it into Mutinized overdrive starting with the second verse. That’s how covers should be done; a good mix of the original and a new take on it. British singer Chris “We’re from New Jersey” Clancy totally nails Brian Johnson’s high-pitched wail.

Going against popular metal critic / tr00 / br00talz grain, I’m still a fan of Mutiny Within’s self-titled debut released earlier this year on Roadrunner. No, it’s not reinventing the wheel, but it’s all about the songs, man! Dig a few of the band’s original tracks on MySpace, and check out the interview with bassist AJ Jacobs I conducted earlier this year.

SOILWORKING THEIR WAY ACROSS THE U.S.

Friday, July 16th, 2010 at 4:00pm by

It’s a Soilwork kinda week at the Mansion. The Panic Broadcast finally came out in North America (read my thoughts about it), Anso DF published his riveting interview with one of metal’s biggest Peters, guitarist/producer Peter Wichers, and the MetalSucks co-sponsored Panic Over North America Tour — with Soilwork (duh), Death Angel, Augury, Mutiny Within and Swashbuckle — finally got underway. Get dates here.

We’ll be seeing our favorite Soilworkers tonight at New York’s Gramercy Theater. They always put on an awesome show, but the rest of the lineup is really solid too and should make for a fun evening if we don’t drink too much beforehand at DJ Brambo’s Heavy Metal Happy Hour at the Arrow Bar on Ave. A. It’s been a long while since I’ve seen NJ’s finest Mutiny Within live — May of 2010 at Brooklyn’s tiny Trash Bar, to be exact, shortly after they’d signed to Roadrunner but long before their album had come out — so it’ll be cool to see them on a big stage, all grown up and stuff. Here’s a performance clips video of “Lethean” they recently put together.

THOUGHTS ON SOILWORK’S THE PANIC BROADCAST

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010 at 2:30pm by

soilwork - the panic broadcast

The Panic Broadcast, Soilwork’s new album marking the return of guitarist/producer Peter Wichers, dropped on July 2nd in Europe… meaning by now most of you have likely heard the whole thing regardless of the “North American release date” of July 13th. But whether you have or haven’t heard it, I figured I’d share my thoughts with ya’ll since that’s why you visit MetalSucks, isn’t it?

Soilwork embark on the MetalSucks-sponsored Panic Over North America tour with Death Angel, Augury, Mutiny Within and Swashbuckle starting on July 14th. Get dates here then get stoked, ’cause we sure are.

My thoughts on The Panic Broadcast after the jump.

FAKE COREY TAYLOR TERRORIZES FACEBOOK

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010 at 10:31am by

Did you know that Slipknot/Stone Sour vocalist Corey Taylor has a Facebook page? And that he’ll accept virtually anyone as his friend? And that he’s really, really bummed about the recent line-up change in Mutiny Within?

So, uh, like, Corey’s on tour in Europe right now with Stone Sour, and his bandmate and very good friend recently passed away, but he’s concerned about who’s playing drums for Mutiny Within? Why? ‘Cause he’s never seen bands change members before? ‘Cause they’re his labelmates? Or is he just a really big MW fan?

Or could it be because there is no fucking way that this is actually Corey Taylor?

DEATH ANGEL RELENTLESSLY SEEK RETRIBUTION

Friday, July 2nd, 2010 at 11:30am by

Y’know what’s fucking metal? Using the carcass of your prey as a means of camouflage yourself in order to hunt and kill MORE of that prey. Now THAT is fucking-A metal.

Nuclear Blast will release Death Angel’s Relentless Retribution on September 3 in Europe and September 14 in North America. And don’t forget that Death Angel are on the the MetalSucks co-sponsored Panic Over North America Tour 2010 with Soilwork, Augury, Mutiny Within and Swashbuckle. Get dates here.

GWAR IS MOTHERFUCKIN’ HOT INSIDE THE WHITE RABBIT

Monday, June 21st, 2010 at 11:00am by

Gwar/Mutiny Within @ White Rabbit

San Antonio, Texas – June 7, 2010

Due to an unfortunate pre-show fluidity accident involving my good friend, Brian, and my alleged miniature Dachshund, Tamale, I missed out on all but two songs of Mutiny Within’s set. I was actually looking forward to seeing the band and enjoyed what I did see. I will make sure to catch them on the rebound in the near future.

Of course, no one really cares about opening bands when it comes to Gwar. In the midst of celebrating their 25-year reign of destruction over you puny Earthlings, Gwar is tighter, heavier, and funnier than ever. Instead of being relegated to the bargain bin of heavy metal wash-ups, Gwar has miraculously leaped to the forefront of true heavy metal entertainment spectacle.

NEV-ER-MORE! NEV-ER-MORE!

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010 at 11:00am by

Someday I want to walk either up or down some stairs and then along a very bland-looking hallway towards the increasingly loud sound of people either chanting my name or the name of something cool with which I am closely associated – like a band, or, I dunno, this website. Of course, that’s likely never to occur, since I am not now, nor have I ever been, nor am I ever likely to be, in a real band, and you don’t often hear people chanting the names of bloggers or websites. Unless it’s Cum Fiesta. But, c’mon. MetalSucks is no Cum Fiesta.

(By the way, I didn’t put a note that Cum Fiesta is NSFW because, well, it’s called “Cum Fiesta.” If you clicked through and did not realize that it was going to be a porn site, please never reproduce, as there are enough idiots in the world as it is and we don’t need your gene pool to continue. Thanks.)

ANYWAY, I mention it because it’s how the new Nevermore video, for “Emptiness Unobstructed,” begins. And why wouldn’t you chant for Nevermore? Nevermore are fucking awesome. We’re sponsoring their North American tour with Warbringer, Mutiny Within and Hatesphere (dates here), and I totally intend to go, and I totally intend to start a “NEV-ER-MORE!” chant. Okay, I probably won’t do that because I’m not really an extroverted or even social person, but I will go to the show and chime in with a chant that someone else started.

In case ya haven’t heard, lemme drop some knowledge: “Emptiness Unobstructed” is off of Nevermore’s new album, The Obsidian Conspiracy, which is out now on Century. It’s awesome. Go get it.

METALSUCKS PRESENTS: THE NEVERMORE NORTH AMERICAN TOUR 2010

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010 at 5:17pm by

The fact that the Nevermore North American Tour 2010 has already been announced isn’t lost on us… but since any good metal tour auto-magically looks cooler with our logo followed by “Presents…” atop its bill, we figured we’d jump on and sponsor it! Neo-thrashers Warbringer, American neo-melodeathsters Mutiny Within and Denmark’s melodeath/thrashsters Hatesphere are on the bill as well, making for a fun bill of metal that will kick off in Vancouver on September 23rd, circle around the U.S., and wrap in Edmonton on November 5th.

What does this mean for us? Well, besides getting to stroke our ego every time we look at the poster, we get a pair of VIP tickets for every show. And for you lucky chaps, you get to be the recipients of said VIP tickets. Golly! Details for how to win those will be announced soon.

And even better, “Create Your Own Conspiracy Contest” winner Ben Robson gets his shot to perform his version of “The Obsidian Conspiracy” with the band in his hometown of Pittsburgh on October 25th; and since Century Media had graciously offered to fly him and a friend to a show for the performance, Ben gets to use that money to bring down a whole buncha friends and family instead. If you live in or near Pittsburgh, do not miss this special show!

Full list of tour dates after the jump. Sorry Floridians, but you get screwed once again (and as usual, not our fault!).

MUCH BETTER THAN THE ICP/KITTIE TOUR

Friday, March 19th, 2010 at 11:30am by

While we have no intention of going to see Kittie play with a bunch of clowns and The Insane Clown Posse, I suspect we will find our way to Soilwork’s next U.S. tour, which will be with Death Angel and feature support from Augury, Mutiny Within, and Swashbuckle. We haven’t gotten to check out the band since Peter Wichers re-joined, and, truth be told, it didn’t feel quite right without The Wichmeister.

And I promise never to refer to him as “The Wichmeister” again.

Dates after the jump!

IN WHICH WE WERE TOO METAL FOR PANTS

Friday, March 5th, 2010 at 5:00pm by

I’m really, really disappointed in you, male MetalSucksians. After reader Ashley sent in some epic photos of herself in a MetalSucks hoodie and not very much else, I predicted we’d get an identical pic from a wise-ass dude by the end of the week. Nope. Either no one thought of it, or no one had the balls to do it. For shame. And now what are the three ladies who actually read this site to look at? Pics of Lars Ulrich’s dick?

Oh well. Here are some other things that happened this week:

And next week I expect you, our beloved readers, to be back up to your usual level of witty repartee.

A TRACK-BY-TRACK REVIEW OF THE GOD OF WAR: BLOOD AND METAL EP

Monday, March 1st, 2010 at 11:30am by

I’m not sure what the consensus is on track-by-track reviews of albums these days, but given that Roadrunner’s God of War: Blood and Metal EP – a soundtrack to the latest installment of the popular video game – features six songs by six different artists, it seems only fair to give each song its due, rather than consider the release as a cohesive whole. And so, without further bullshit:

IN WHICH WE DREW FOUR

Friday, February 26th, 2010 at 5:30pm by

I haven’t been able to shake this cold, and so I’ve actually been playing a lot of on-line Scrabble with a friend this week (because I’m just that cool). It would be really hard to play Scrabble at a metal show, though, not least of all because so many metal d00dz can’t spell.

When we weren’t beating this whole Uno debacle to death like it had just heckled us, here’s what was happening in the world of metal:

Okay. Back to Scrabble! See ya Monday. Stay warm.

A WORLD EXCLUSIVE: STREAM MUTINY WITHIN’S SELF-TITLED DEBUT ALBUM IN FULL

Monday, February 22nd, 2010 at 1:00pm by

mutiny withinMutiny Within‘s long-awaited self-titled debut record finally comes out tomorrow. It’s been a long time coming for these New Jersey (and British) younguns who I first saw play a cramped basement at NYC’s Lit Lounge about two years ago, back when they were simply called Mutiny. I’ve said it quite a bit leading up this release but it bears repeating: not a whole lot of “commercial” (for lack of a better word) metal has tickled my fancy these past couple of years, but Mutiny Within hit that sweet spot for me. It’s the perfect mix of technicality, brutality and melody and of European and American metal sensibilities. For what it’s worth, it’s one of my favorite releases of 2010 so far. Enjoy the full album stream below and be sure to purchase the record when it comes out tomorrow. It’s available for only $11 with an autographed booklet if you order today.

IN WHICH EVERYONE GOT SICK

Friday, February 19th, 2010 at 5:30pm by

Vince brought the shits back with him from Egypt and in the past twenty-four hours I’ve been hit with a cold so bad that I’m probably gonna go to sleep right around the time I hit “publish” for this post. So before I pass out, here’s a run-down of what we did while Vince was playing Camel jockey:

Okay, NyQuil time. See ya Monday!!!

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH MUTINY WITHIN’S ANDREW “AJ” JACOBS

Friday, February 19th, 2010 at 3:00pm by

mutiny within - ajIf you’re a regular reader of this site by now you should know all about Mutiny Within, Roadrunner’s latest metal young guns. Their debut self-titled album comes out next Tuesday, February 23rd… and we’ll be streaming the whole thing here on Monday. In the meantime you’ll just have to take my word for it that the album is great, the perfect mix of pure American metal and Euro power written by guys with an amazing sense of songwriting for such a young set of dudes.

Mutiny Within just finished up their opening stint on the MetalSucks-sponsored Tyrants of Evil tour with Arch Enemy, Exodus and Arsis. During the tour’s final week I caught up with bassist Andrew “AJ” Jacobs to chat about the tour, the new album, the support Roadrunner has offered and what it’s like being a new band on the road.
