APPARENTLY, LARS ULRICH HASN’T EVEN HEARD “THE VIEW”

Tuesday, October 18th, 2011 at 10:00am by

Lars Ulrich has a history of saying really dumb shit to promote his latest really dumb endeavor, but his most recent brain fart may actually be his stinkiest one yet.

See, back in 2003, before there even was a MetalSucks (unless you believe the kid I met at New York Comic Con this weekend who very excitedly told me he’s been an avid reader since 2002), there was a rumor going around that Lars Ulrich was going to do some of the scoring for Kill Bill, Quentin Tarantino’s then-heavily-anticipated martial arts opus. Of course, that never actually came to pass, and now Ulrich has explained why in a guest column for The Daily Beast. The issue, it seems, started when he sat down to read the script (which is available here if you’re interested):

REZNORWATCH: MORE ON THE SOCIAL NETWORK SCORE, AND THE YEAR ZERO TELEVISION SERIES AIN’T DEAD YET?

Thursday, September 30th, 2010 at 10:30am by

Trent Reznor may have dissolved Nine Inch Nails, but the coolest rock star in pretty much the history of ever is still keeping plenty busy. Earlier this week, he released the score the co-composed with Atticus Ross for The Social Network, charging just three bucks for a download from Amazon for the for the fist 48 hours; shock of shocks, Deadline reports that it’s been the Amazon mp3 store’s top seller ever since. (As of this writing, the soundtrack is still available for a mere $2.99; it will go up to a whopping $4.99 later today. It’s not metal, but it is fucking great. Go get it.)

Meanwhile, /Film has a fifty-minute (!) audio interview with Reznor regarding the score, in which the always-loquacious goth idol gives some interesting insights into the music. You can stream or download it here.

And as if all that wasn’t enough to scratch your Reznor itch, try this: Remember how Trent wanted to do an HBO series based on his album Year Zero? I can’t blame if you don’t; that was more than two years ago. But lest we forget, the film and television business can move very, verrrrrry slowly. And so I was elated to see that the project is apparently still alive. Reznor tells the Los Angeles Times:

ZSI: ZOMBIE SCENE INVESTIGATION

So apparently Rob Zombie’s next directing gig isn’t going to be the long-gestating Tyrannosaurus Rex or previously-announced remake of The Blob, but rather… an episode of CSI: Miami. For those of who aren’t familiar with the program, it’s basically a forensic science-centric police procedural. It is also one of many shows on CBS that I do not understand why people watch.

I’d love to make fun of Zombie and say that this must mean he can’t get a feature off the ground… but there’s no evidence that this is the case. Quentin Tarantino directed an episode of the original CSI back in 2005, and whatever you wanna say about QT, you can’t say his career is hurting. And, if we’re being honest, I’d rather see Zombie do this than fuck-up The Blob.

Meanwhile, I hear that his animated film, The Haunted World of El Superbeasto, is actually good. It went straight to DVD last year… anybody catch it?
