My live and recording set-ups are exactly the same, and it is very, very simple. I play a mid-80s G&L SB-1 bass (which is the only piece of equipment I own that I have absolutely no recollection of buying) through a Sunn Beta Bass amp running a Traynor 4×12 speaker cabinet. The only pedals I have are the channel switcher that comes with the amp and a Boss TU-2 tuning pedal.

EXCLUSIVE EARTH DAY INTERVIEW: WARPED TOUR / ROCKSTAR MAYHEM FEST FOUNDER KEVIN LYMAN ON HIS TOURS’ GREEN INITIATIVES

Friday, April 22nd, 2011 at 4:40pm by

Kevin Lyman

Touring is inherently not eco-friendly. Buses and trucks that burn through gas like Brent Hinds burns through beer, a rabid audience that produces several tons of waste in the form of bottles, cups, etc, bands that use materials that aren’t biodegradable simply because they’re the cheapest available… these are just some of the challenges of keeping things green on the road.

Kevin Lyman, the creator of Warped Tour and The Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, has been aboard the green train for years: Warped and Mayhem feature 100% solar powered stages, volunteers from community recycling programs to sort through waste in each city the tour plays, biodegradable kitchen utensils for catering, and more. Read my chat with Kevin about Rockstar Mayhem’s industry-leading green initiatives after the jump.

THE MAYHEM BURGER!

Monday, July 26th, 2010 at 3:00pm by

Any readers of MetalSucks that have been milling around here for at least the past year or so should know we love a good burger from time to time, particularly when it comes to the web’s premiere burger aficionado Burger Conquest. When combined with metal, we think burgers are just dandy — see our past “Burger Conquests” with the dudes from Shadows Fall and Mookie from Genghis Tron (who combined burgers and metal with a third love of Vince’s, The Mets). And with the three episodes released so far of our new metal-themed cooking show Cooking Contaminated, it shouldn’t be any surprise that we love good food.

With the commencement of this year’s Rockstar Mayhem Festival, Burger Conquest proprietor The Rev sees an opportunity to invent another of his delicious burger concoctions. Three patties of meat along with handmade fresh mosh-erella cheese, ground black pepper, crispy onions, and bacon… call it the Mayhem Burger. Sounds de-fucking-licious. Watch The Rev explain the recipe below, although you’ll have to sit through a cringe-worthy minute of live Korn footage first (or just skip to 1:20).

WIN A PAIR OF TICKETS TO THE ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL

Friday, July 23rd, 2010 at 2:00pm by

Since we love giving you guys free stuff almost as much as you love receiving free stuff from us, we’ve teamed up with the Rockstar Mayhem Festival to offer up TWO free pairs of tickets (that’s four tickets total, for you geniuses keeping score at home) to this year’s traveling festival! Rob Zombie, Lamb of God, Norma Jean, Chimaira, Shadows Fall and 3 Inches of Blood are just some of the bands on this year’s bill, and who are you to argue with the price of free?

The shows that are available for this contest are: any date starting with the July 30th show in Tinley Park, IL going all the way through to the end of the tour August 14th in Oklahoma City. Find the full list of dates here. If you win, you’ll get a pair of tickets to the show of your choice; but please, only enter if you can/will actually attend. Tickets will be for the lawn only (on the main stage… other stages are GA).

To win, simply submit a comment telling us why you deserve to win the pair of tickets. Remember, this is MetalSucks — not your 5th grade book report — so try to make your entry funny / fun / in some way interesting. Axl and Vince will pick their favorite entry on Wednesday, July 28th, and will contact the winner by email, so be sure you comment with a real email address (or include it in the comment if you’re using FB Connect). Good luck!

ALBUQUERQUE POLICE KICK RIGHT-WING RELIGIOUS NUTJOBS OUT OF THE ROCKSTAR MAYHEM FESTIVAL

Friday, July 23rd, 2010 at 10:00am by

Watch as the Albuquerque police [lawfully and rightfully] remove a bunch of religious activists from the grounds of the Rockstar Mayhem Festival for protesting on private property, and eventually arrest them for refusing to leave. The best is around the 2:45 mark, after the officers have successfully started to walk the protesters off the fair grounds, when the lead officer starts going on a rant about being a non-believer then proceeds to acknowledge that the video will likely end up on YouTube by giving his mom a shout-out. And later on, by accusing the cameraman of being a “gay homosexual” with a crush on him for the constant camera attention. This Officer J. Goff may be homophobic, but I do find it hilarious that he accused a Jesus warrior of being gay!

THE RED CHORD BASSIST GREG WEEKS ANSWERS METALSUCKS’ COMPLETELY RETARDED QUESTIONS

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008 at 2:23pm by

At the beginning of April, just as genre-bending metal masters The Red Chord were kicking off a tour with Converge, Genghis Tron, Baroness and Coliseum, we were given the opportunity to e-mail bassist Greg Weeks some questions. Of course, we jumped at the chance.

And then we never heard back.

At the time, we assumed that Greg had decided our questions were just too stupid to answer (and who could blame the dude?); in fact, there was another culprit at fault for Greg’s delayed response.

After the jump, find out why it took Greg so long to get back to us, and read his thoughts on such incredibly relevant political topics as why no producer will work with the band more than once, touring with Disturbed, and the current state of large beards in metal. For, surely, this interview proves our journalistic integrity.
