STAR WARS, EPISODE I: THE PHANTOM METAL

Thursday, February 9th, 2012 at 2:00pm by

Tomorrow the Metallica of filmmakers, George Lucas, will re-release his catastrophically bad Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace in 3D, I guess because there’s nothing like sitting through a terrible two-and-a-half hour movie in the worst format available.

The silver lining, though, is that someone has taken the trailer and re-done it with death metal music, even going so far as to put DM vocals over all the actors’ lines. And maybe it’s just because I’m all hopped up on Percocet right now, but I found this extremely funny — especially because the unintelligible vocals are a vast improvement over Lucas’ shitty, shitty dialogue.

IF YOU LOVE METAL AND STAR WARS AS MUCH AS I DO, YOU WILL STILL PROBABLY THINK THIS IS FUCKING WEIRD

Star Wars and Guns N’ Roses both have a special spot reserved in my geekiest of geeky heart, and probably for similar reasons: Return of the Jedi was the first movie I ever saw in theaters (and I was obsessed with/sympathetic to Darth Vader, not Luke Skywalker or Han Solo, it will shock exactly no one one to learn), and GN’R were my gateway into metal. In other words, seeing Jedi and hearing “It’s So Easy” were both major contributing factors to ruining my mother’s dreams of me ever going to medical school.

So. Now our friends over at Metal Insider have discovered the below video, filmed at Disney’s Hollywood studios’ “Star Wars Weekends” show, in which Chewbacca… and then an ewok… well, just watch. It is fucking strange, and I have no idea what the crap it has to do with Star Wars, although the audience does seem to be pretty into it.

Yep. ‘Cause I always thought that was “Welcome to the Jungle” was missing was a Jawa shouting “Wootini!” at just the right moment.

But wait, there’s more! They also had Lord Vader gettin’ jiggy wit… Metallica?

“WELCOME TO MOSH EISLEY”

darth metal

In theory, I should hate a band that has adopted the gimmick of being completely Star Wars-themed, but I’m a Star Wars dork and have enjoyed Buckethead’s renditions of John Williams’ awesome score many times in the past. So I’m gonna give a free pass to the UK’s Anchorhead, who not only do metal versions of Wiliams’ music, but apparently play dressed as various Star Wars characters. Seriously. Take a look:

TEN THINGS I’D PREFER TO LISTEN TO INSTEAD OF THE NEW HELLYEAH ALBUM

f-hellyeah

I can’t believe that there’s going to be a new Hellyeah album. I honestly thought we’d be rid of this insipid band after one phoned-in cash-in. I guess I don’t have any real reason to be too upset though, as not only will I never ever never listen to this record, but I honestly don’t know anyone else who ever will either.

In any case, here are some things I’d rather hear than new “music” from Hellyeah:

THE RED CHORD’S GUY KOZOWYK HUMORS METALSUCKS

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 at 1:00pm by

It wasn’t that long ago that we interviewed The Red Chord bassist Greg Weeks via e-mail, but since a) that interview turned out to be one of the best we’ve ever done and b) we love The Red Chord, we just couldn’t resist the chance to sit down with vocalist Guy Kozowyk at the Long Island stop of the Rockstar Mayhem Festival. Guy was happy, or at least very good at pretending to be happy, to talk to us about the tour, playing in front of such huge crowds, and the already legendary Ladder Up an Ass project, but, like his bandmate, he was also cool enough to humor Axl Rosenberg when he asked a stupid question on behalf of his girlfriend. Check out the full transcript of our chat after the jump.
