CINEMETAL ROUND-UP: NEW VIDEOS FROM VANISHER, VREID, AND A BUNCHA BANDS WHOSE NAME DOES NOT START WITH THE LETTER “V”

Thursday, January 20th, 2011 at 3:30pm by

Before we begin today’s edition of “Cinemetal Round-up,” I’d like to address a comment left by the reader who calls himself “GoingDeaf?” after the last round-up:

“I find it hard to believe that these are the BEST new videos you have at your disposal. I’m all for shitting on bad bands with bad videos, but there HAS to be something of value for you to mix in from time to time for this column. It’s more fun to be a curmudgeon, sure, but balance can be good as well.”

GoingDeaf?, I gotta tell you, if I only posted these when there was “something of value to mix in,” I’d only post two or three of these a year. I post the videos I’m sent via press releases, or see on other metal sites. I’m not sitting on good videos just for the sake of being a curmudgeon; good videos do get made, but they’re very, very few and far between. So, uh, y’know, feel free to just not read these columns. Sorry, bud.

And with that out of the way, let’s watch the crap currently passing for metal videos.

EVERYONE PUNCHES EVERYONE AT SHEER TERROR REUNION

Thursday, September 30th, 2010 at 3:00pm by

One of the most anticipated sets of this year’s This Is Hardcore fest in Philadelphia came from Sheer Terror, the iconic NYHC act that appealed to both metal and hardcore audiences without pandering to either. Infamous frontman Paul Bearer dissolved the band in the late nineties, and save for two sold-out reunion shows at CBGB’s in 2004, there was no sign of life until this summer’s appearance, which you can stream in full here.

Fortunately, those who couldn’t get into the sold-out Philly show have another chance to experience the brutality and brilliance of Sheer Terror, who headline an all-day “homecoming” show November 28 at New York’s Webster Hall, a space once known to hardcore fans as The Ritz. A stellar selection of openers include former Blackout Records alums Breakdown, up-and-coming fan favorites The Rival Mob, and Agnostic Front guitarist’s Vinnie Stigma’s eponymous street punk project. Black N Blue Productions, the team behind the annual (and essential) Black N Blue Bowl / Superbowl of Hardcore event, are putting this one on and tickets are on sale right now. This will be sick and people will be punching people.

IN WHICH WE WERE TOO METAL FOR PANTS

Friday, March 5th, 2010 at 5:00pm by

I’m really, really disappointed in you, male MetalSucksians. After reader Ashley sent in some epic photos of herself in a MetalSucks hoodie and not very much else, I predicted we’d get an identical pic from a wise-ass dude by the end of the week. Nope. Either no one thought of it, or no one had the balls to do it. For shame. And now what are the three ladies who actually read this site to look at? Pics of Lars Ulrich’s dick?

Oh well. Here are some other things that happened this week:

And next week I expect you, our beloved readers, to be back up to your usual level of witty repartee.

A METALSUCKS EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: STIGMA’S “PROVE YOU ARE A MAN!”

Monday, March 1st, 2010 at 1:00pm by

Italian horror-inspired extreme metal act Stigma’s sophomore album, Concerto for the Undead, doesn’t come out until the spring, but Uncle Axl and Uncle Vince have an early taste for you right now: the exclusive debut of the album’s first single, “Prove You Are a Man!” If you don’t know Stigma, well, here’s your chance to learn a little sumpin’ sumpin: they’re kinda like The Black Dahlia Murder, with a somewhat proggier edge. That sounds pretty cool, right? Right. So click “play” and give it a whirl. Bonus: guest vocals by Dead to Fall’s Jon Hunt!

Concerto for the Undead comes out in the U.S. on May 4 on Pivotal Rockordings. You can pre-order the album and get all the latest Stigma updates on their MySpace page.
