DALLAS COYLE GETS INTO THE CINEMETAL BUSINESS WITH THE JUDAS SYNDROME’S “DEATH OF THE SOUL”

Monday, June 28th, 2010 at 5:00pm by

Like myself, Dallas Coyle is a huge film dork — I love geeking out with him, ’cause the dude really knows his shit. And I’m stoked to see that he’s started to put all that knowledge to good use: He co-directed The Judas Syndrome‘s new video, “Death of the Soul,” with Frankie Nasso, who has previously helmed clips for Mudvayne, Hatebreed, All That Remains, Sworn Enemy, and Demiricous, among others.

The video just debuted on Noisecreep, and is really cool; you can check it out below. Hopefully we’ll be seeing more from Dallas Coyle, cinemetal auteur in the not-too-distant future!

“Death of the Soul” comes off The Judas Syndrome’s Underneath Blood Skies, which is out now.

WHAT THE FUCK IS JAMEY GONNA DO WITH ALL THESE CDS?

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010 at 12:00pm by

Every time I come home from tour, I ask myself: “What the fuck am I going to do with all these CDs?!” Because when I go to my storage room to drop off gear and tour supplies, there they are. Literally, thousands of CDs stacked to the ceiling in multiple storage rooms. Bands like The Program, Right Brigade, Oblige, AK Corral (The country CD I put out! Haha… that’s a completely different blog I will one day write.), A Thousand Falling Skies, The Autumn Offering, Full Blown Chaos, etc., etc., etc. Basically stuff that I put out on my labels that didn’t sell well or that we pressed too many of. Now I really don’t want them going in a landfill or polluting the ocean. The thought of a baby seal choking on a Sworn Enemy CD really doesn’t sit well with me. So I figured I would take to the internet to see what could be done. Now if you really want to be a great person and buy any of them, please visit martyrstore.com or stillbornstore.com – they’re cheap! Okay? So here’s some videos to check out, you decide what I should do with this stuff!

Should I make jewelry?

EXCLUSIVE TOUR BLOG WITH MANTIC RITUAL GUITARIST JEFF POTTS, PART 1: “IT WAS A ROUGH DAY AT THE OFFICE, HONEY…”

After Corey Mitchell’s perfect review of their album Executioner, how could we resist running a tour blog from Mantic Ritual guitarist Jeff Potts? Read his first installment below, and if you’re very well behaved, others will follow…

Right now I’m sitting back stage at the Masquerade in Atlanta with the peculiar kind of sore throat that only comes from prolonged screaming and generally abusing the hell out of the vocal chords.  This doesn’t sound that weird for a guy who’s in a  thrash band on a black metal tour, but it’s actually pretty odd – because I’m the guitarist.

NEW VIDEO FOR SWORN ENEMY’S “A PLACE OF SOLACE,” WITH EXCLUSIVE EXCERPTS FROM DIRECTOR DAVID BRODSKY’S ORIGINAL TREATMENT!

Thursday, March 20th, 2008 at 5:04pm by

Headbanger’s Blog debuted Sworn Enemy’s new video for “A Place of Solace” earlier today, and director/animator/special effects dude/general madman David Brodsky was cool enough to send us his original treatment for the clip, giving us a glimpse not only into the video’s meaning, but the thought process that goes on behind-the-scenes for a project such as this one. Excerpts from the treatment appear below:

“The entire narrative aspect of the video takes place in the ‘minds’ of ‘narrators’… the ‘narrators’ being the Father and the Son. All of the images shown are either ‘recollection’ or ‘metaphorical fantasy’…

“Who is being ‘wronged’ is indicated by B/W slow-mo faces or graphic in the extreme foreground while the ‘action’ is happening in the background ‘projected on a wall.’ The projection helps to indicate ‘recollection’…

“…For instance, when the kid is stealing money, the DAD is the ‘graphic’ because the Dad recalls the kid as being a thief… when the Dad is digging through the drawer, the KID is the ‘graphic’ because the kid is recalling the Dad being a snoop… and when they are BOTH being assholes they are BOTH the graphic…

“We show the family was ‘happy,’ then the dad disrespects the kid, the kid then disrespects the dad, so on and so forth in slightly escalating ways until they come to blows internally – sort of a way to show that both of them feel the same way BUT for two different reasons… and both ‘dream’ of the other one being dominated in order to achieve their personal ‘place of solace’…

“Both of them have legitimate points and both of them react in escalating ways because THEY PERCEIVE that the other one is being the asshole…

“I want to stay away from the terribly obvious and make something that, let’s say, a son could watch and agree with AND a father could watch and agree with… instead of making it clear-cut who was really the asshole, we wanted to make it easy to sympathize with either character…

“It’s a very real possibility that both of these characters are overreacting to small matters, but then again, it’s a very real possibility that we ALL overreact to small matters depending on the context in which we see them.”

Here’s the vid; like the Brodsky-directed video for Suicide Silence’s “Bludgeoned to Death,” it was edited by Allison Woest. After you’ve watched it, don’t forget to visit David Brodsky/MyGoodEye on MySpace.

DENNIS SIEBEIJN, UNDERAPPRECIATED COVER ARTIST

Thursday, November 1st, 2007 at 9:41am by

There’s a lot of talk right now about John Baizley, the Baroness frontman who also is the cover artist du jour.

There’s considerably less talk about Dennis Siebeijn at Damnengine, though, which is too bad, ’cause, like Baizley, he’s done some of the coolest, most distinctive metal cover art in recent memory, including recent releases from Chimaira, Job for a Cowboy, Sworn Enemy, and See You Next Tuesday. Siebeijn’s work is usually epic in scope and immediately captures the eye; I suspect he’s not getting as much press because it doesn’t look quite as “home made” as Baizley’s work. Still, I think it’s pretty rad. Look at some samples after the jump.
