EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH PRODUCER/MIXER KEVIN ANTREASSIAN

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010 at 1:00pm by Vince Neilstein

kevin antreassian

Kevin Antreassian runs a booming recording business out of Backroom Studios in Rockaway, NJ. In addition to helping make countless local metal bands sound like Gods, Kevin has been the man behind sessions with Coheed & Cambria’s Chris Pennie, The Number 12 Looks Like You, Knife the Glitter, The Binary Code and more.

A couple of weeks ago I shot Kevin a list of questions via email about his studio, producing, the recording process, gear, getting all up in a band member’s face when they play a sloppy take and some of the bands that he’s worked with. It’s clear from his answers that not only is Kevin a talented engineer/mixer/producer but he gets metal, a characteristic that most studio guys on a local level just don’t have. production Kevin’s answers, after the jump.

THE DECIBLOG OUT-SUCKS METALSUCKS

DropDeadGorgeous5

We’ve worked pretty hard to achieve our title of the “Most Negative Site in Metal.” And we’re proud of that title. We’ve earned it, damn it.

So we’re jealous that those fuckers at The Deciblog, and not us, thought of this brilliant idea:

THE DECIBLOG SCREAMO COVER ELIMINATION BRACKET.

Luckily, they invited us to participate.

Here’s the description of how it’s gonna work:

PROTEST THE HERO: EXCLUSIVE TOUR DIARY VIDEO!

Thursday, May 14th, 2009 at 3:30pm by Vince Neilstein

Protest the Hero (recipients of one of only two 5-out-of-5-horns ratings on MetalSucks ever) are currently out on the MetalSucks-sponsored “Heads Will Roll” Tour with Misery Signals and The Number 12 Looks Like You, and yours truly had the privilege of seeing them headline for the first time this past Saturday night in NYC — and good lord, the band delivers the goods live to be sure. PtH have all the chops live they do on record; no ProTools chicanery there, folks. This is a tour you absolutely need to see when it hits your city, but it may already be too late; the tour wraps up with a show tonight in Chicago and another tomorrow in St. Paul, Minnesota. If you missed the tour when it came through your town or you live in Chicago or St. Paul but spent all your money on weed, check out the exclusive tour diary the Protest dudes did for us, below. It’s a great look into the zany behind-the-scenes antics of what goes down in the Protest camp on tour. And you get the impression this is only a fraction of the crazy shit that actually goes on.

FINALLY A WEBSITE THAT’S MORE MEAN-SPIRITED THAN METALSUCKS

Friday, August 29th, 2008 at 1:33pm by Vince Neilstein

From FuckThatBand.com:

Great, just great. This is just what we need. The Number 12 Looks Like You has announced that they are heading back into the studio sometime this week. They will be recording some shitty new album in some shitty recording studio in shitty New Jersey. It is official, my day is ruined. bleh

I’m neither here nor there on the band in question, but that is some serious vitriol the likes of which only Axl Rosenberg reaches from time to time. For some other entertaining diatribes about the likes of Funeral For A Friend, Thursday, The Maine and more, check out FuckThatBand.com.

I’m still smacking myself on the forehead for not registering that domain name years ago. D’oh!
