Last week, rumors started swirling that there was gonna be a North American tour with Mastodon, Opeth, and Ghost, and, oh hey, wouldn’t cha know it, on Thursday, Mastodon’s Troy “Everyone in This Band’s Name Starts with the Letter ‘B’ Except for Me” Sanders confirmed it during an interview with a Belgian radio station, telling them –
Earlier this month, Vince wrote about Mastodon’s love of Feist, and the apparent desire of both artists to collaborate together in some way; at the time, Feist even claimed that Brent Hinds had expressed interest in covering the song “The Bad in Each Other,” from her recent album Metals, while she might cover “Oblivion,” from Mastodon’s Crack the Skye.
Well, hey, guess what? It looks like something along those lines might actually happen. During a recent interview (video above), Troy Sanders said that both artists are attempting to get together a split 7″ for the 2012 edition of Record Store Day, which takes place in April. Metal Insider has helpfully transcribed the relevant portion of the interview in case you are somehow too much of a fat ass to watch a thirty second clip:
Mastodon’s Troy Sanders is selling his suburban Atlanta home. The 3 bdr, 2 bath, 2-story new construction (2005) looks modest compared to the mansion that Joey Belladonna was reportedly selling two years back, but I think it would still represent a major upgrade for the majority of metal musicians (and one can only assume Sanders is selling it because Mastodon’s success has allowed him something biggerer and betterer). I’ve written before about my affinity for the music of Melissa Auf der Maur, and I know that some people were all,”Hey, this chick ain’t metal.” To which I say: au contraire. Even if her music isn’t always as heavy as a really heavy thing, she’s certainly got the metal in her blood n’ spirit. She fronted Hand of Doom, a (totally killer) Black Sabbath tribute band, and her latest solo album, Out of Our Minds, has a duet with Glenn Danzig, fer Chrissakes!
But in case you’re somehow still too metalier than thou to show Ms. Auf der Maur some love, maybe this will change your mind: She recently hit up the Heavy MTL festival in her hometown of Montreal, and filed a four-part video report from said festival. I’m skipping right to part three below, not because the first two parts aren’t great (Cute Canadian girls with funny accents! WHOO-HOO!), but because I find this interview with Mastodon’s Troy Sanders and Brann Dailor to be really, really entertaining.

While we were interviewing Mastodon bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders at this past summer’s Mayhem Festival, our buds at Metal Injection were right across the hall interviewing Mastodon drummer/resident goofball Brann Dailor.
