MetalSucks recently had the opportunity to have a quick chat with Arsis bassist Noah Martin after their show at BB King’s in New York City on February 4th, 2008 with Exodus, Goatwhore and Warbringer. Martin had some interesting things to say about life on the road, the young lads in Warbringer, and Arsis’ new album We Are the Nightmare which drops April 15th on Nuclear Blast. WARBRINGER SHOW PROMISE AT NEW YORK CITY SHOW WITH EXODUS

Warbringer

The clock struck 7pm sharp and Warbringer wasted no time, launching right into their abbreviated set and taking advantage of every minute of their alloted time slot. It’s not easy being up first on a four-band bill featuring established acts like Arsis and Goatwhore and legends like Exodus, and it’s also not easy being by far the youngest. But Warbringer did a fine job, rocking the 100 or so folks who had shown up early to catch their set of non-stop vintage thrash.

WAR WITHOUT END: WARBRINGER CLIMB TO THE TOP OF THE THRASH REVIVAL

Monday, January 21st, 2008 at 2:25pm by

26142.jpgIn a November 2007 Decibel article about the current thrash revival scene, Warbringer vocalist John Kevill told Kevin Stewart-Panko that “I don’t put any politics in my lyrics… Our music is about the riffs and a barrage of senseless violence and evil.” And even though it’s hard to imagine that politics really have nothing to do with the sudden increase of bands that look and sound like they just stepped out of a time machine from the Bay Area around the time Cliff Burton died, the point remains: these bands are out to have fun, dude. The fact that thrash has already been so readily absorbed into metal’s bloodstream is beside the point; the fact that so many bands have figured out a way to fuse it with death and hardcore does not mean the three genres must now remain forever fused.

So I’m pleased to announce that Warbringer’s debut full length, War Without End, more than lives up to the promise of One by One the Wicked Fall (which you can download for free, if for some stupid reason you haven’t already done so, by clicking on that banner to your left), and moves them to the head of the modern thrash class.

CINEMETAL: MUNICPAL WASTE PERFORM “HEADBANGER FACE RIP” LIVE

Friday, January 18th, 2008 at 12:09pm by

Next week I will FINALLY post my review of Warbringer’s excellent War Without End, which I’m pretty sure is the pinnacle, at least up ’til now, of the this whole 80s thrash revival thing.

But don’t worry, Municpal Waste. Just because I love Warbringer best doesn’t mean we can’t still be friends. And just to prove it, here’s a video of MW performing “Headbanger Face Rip” on  Capital Chaos. Whatever the fuck Capital Chaos is.

Thrash fans, have we got a treat for you: Warbringer’s heavily buzzed-about Century Media debut, War Without End, doesn’t drop until February 5, but we’ve got the kick-ass demo that got them all this attention in the first place for free download. One by One the Wicked Fall is a blast of neo-thrash you won’t soon forget – I mean, if that cover doesn’t scream “THRASH FUCKIN’ METAL!” to you, nothing will – and should only serve to whet your appetite for the feast that War Without End promises to be.

War Without End was produced by the God-like Bill Metoyer (Slayer, D.R.I., Sacred Reich… did we mention Slayer yet?) and will be released on Century on February 5. In the meantime, Warbringer will hit the road with the legendary Exodus, Arsis and Goatwhore in January; to get tour dates and hear even more music, head over to their MySpace page.
