WINDS OF PLAGUE RELEASE NEW VIDEO, PREPARE FOR FIRST MAJOR LAWSUIT

Thursday, February 19th, 2009 at 3:46pm by Axl Rosenberg

I suppose it’s entirely possible that Winds of Plague – or, more specifically, Winds of Plague’s handlers – cleared the rights to use clips from Zack Snyder’s film adaptation of Frank Miller’s comic book graphic novel 300 for their new video, “Anthems of the Apocalypse.” But I somehow doubt it; I can’t see Warner Bros. giving up the rights that cheaply, and I don’t see WOP having it in their budget to fork over the Benjamins. Maybe they paid the dubba-dubba-WB with naked photos of keyboardsit Kristen Randall?

In any case, I have no fucking idea what the thematic significance is of 300 to the song anyway. In a press release, lead singer Johnny (the release doesn’t say what the dude’s last name is and I am far too lazy to Wikipedia that bitch right now) attempts to explain:

“This video pretty much is the perfect representation of WINDS OF PLAGUE: an energetic live show meets the brutal killing fields of oversized monsters, demonic samurai warriors and buff killing machines.”

Translation: “It looked cool.”

MUSE IN THE WATCHMEN TRAILER

Friday, November 14th, 2008 at 1:01pm by Axl Rosenberg

I don’t know if it’s the work of director Zack Snyder or his marketing peeps that make the decision as to what music will appear in the trailers for his films, but this much is true: the use of metal-friendly bands sure does take this ad campaigns a long way (Iann Robinson has a cameo – as a zombie! – in Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead remake, so at the very least, I assume that Snyder has some knowledge of all things metal.). First there was the trailer for 300, which was practically a Nine Inch Nails video; then there was this summer’s Watchmen teaser, which made use of the Smashing Pumpkins; and now comes the full trailer for Watchmen, which features Muse’s awesome “Take a Bow.” And while Muse isn’t exactly metal, we still think you should care.

Check out the trailer below.

BAND NAMED AFTER POPULAR GRAPHIC NOVEL NOT LIKELY TO SEE SALES INCREASE AFTER RELEASE OF FILM ADAPTATION

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008 at 10:00am by Axl Rosenberg

Z Records, a label no one has ever heard of, is proud to announce the signing of Watchmen, a band from South America that is neither Sepultura nor Krisiun.

The news confirmed what many of the band members’ girlfriends already feared: that director Zack Snyder’s soon to be released, heavily anticipated adaptation of Alan Moore’s much beloved graphic novel, Watchmen, will do little to nothing for the band’s record sales.
