HEAVY METAL ON THE CELLO? YUP. BREAK OF REALITY DELIVERS THUNDER IN NYC’S SUBWAYS

40

Break of RealityIn the days of pre-Giuliani yesteryear, subway performers were abound in New York City, and it wasn’t uncommon at all to hear something that was pretty darn good beneath the city’s streets. But then the nazi Giuliani came along (those of you non-NYers who are planning to vote in the 2008 presidential election, pay close attention here) and resorted to such tactics as arresting street performers, ticketing jay-walkers, attempting to ban hot dog vendors, and, well, he pretty much proceded to demonize anything in New York that had any sort of artistic value. That’s why it was refreshing to hear that MetalSucks.net tipster Sivan from Audiokio saw a fabulous act in the subway this weekend, the three-cellos-and-a-drummer outfit BREAK OF REALITY who play hard rock on their cellos, performing their own brand of music self-described as “Heavy Cello Thunder.” I’ve taken a listen to the band’s music on their MySpace site and I have to say they’re pretty talented and definitely worth a listen.

New Yorkers can check out Break of Reality live May 26th at Galapagos in Brooklyn, and those in the Sacramento, CA area can stop by the 13th Annual New Directions Cello Festival on June 8th, 9th, or 10th.
