THIS WEEK’S SOUNDSCAN NUMBERS REVEALED

30

Boy oh boy was I ever wrong about Darkest Hour. Instead of my predicted 50,000 first-week units shifted, the Washington, D.C. metalcorers sold a mere 6,600, not even cracking the top 100. Yikes. The Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan had a huge debut to land near the top. Velvet Revolver slipped down the charts in only their second week, perhaps foreshadowing the fate of the Pumpkins. The rest is more or less business as usual in Soundscanville. Chart positions and sales numbers after the jump.

#2: Smashing Pumpkins, Zeitgeist
This Week: 144,760 (debut)

Not bad. Will probably follow Velvet Revolver’s 2nd week fate, though (see below).

#7: Linkin Park, Minutes to Midnight
This Week: 54,082
Cume: 1,356,033

#19: Velvet Revolver, Libertad
This Week: 37,172
Cume: 130,962

Disappointing. This album may see an early grave unless it can be rescued by a big single.

#67: Ozzy Osbourne, Black Rain
This Week: 11,425
Cume: 314,677

#78: Three Days Grace, One-X
This Week: 9,262
Cume: 803,420

#83: Marilyn Manson, Eat Me, Drink Me
This Week: 8,715
Cume: 170,655

Hangin’ on by a thread:

  • #104: Finger Eleven, Them Vs. You Vs. Me (Cume: 121,856)
  • #105: Queens of the Stone Age, Era Vulgaris (Cume: 101,426)
