MURDER BY LETTERS: WHEN IT COMES TO BAND NAMES, “D” IS FOR “DUMBASS”

0

Our friends over at The Deciblog have done a scientific analysis of band names, finding the answer to the question that has been burning holes in our brains [drugs notwithstanding] for decades; how likely is a band’s name to start with a certain letter of the alphabet? Justin Foley of the Austerity Program, not to be confused with Killswitch Engage’s drummer of the same name, writes:

“I’ve got all of my non-vinyl music stored in a computer database/player program and so do lots of other people. It also sorts things by genre, which I’ve amended to include subgenres that are more accurate and maybe a little more personal (Metal becomes Doom Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal, Heavy Metal and Powerviolence). Often I’ll scroll through these subgenres and notice that there’s a ton of bands that start with some letters and none that start with others. That got me thinking.

The question:
How likely is a metal band to start their name with a particular letter of the alphabet?”

Be sure to pay The Deciblog a visit for the in-depth analysis.
