THIS WEEK’S SOUNDSCAN CHARTS REVEALED

0

SoundscanAs always we’ve got this past week’s big rock and metal sellers listed for you after the jump — but the big story is actually that of the Eagles, whose new album Long Road Out of Eden was, until last night, excluded from the charts because it is being sold only at Wal-Mart. Apparently the folks at Billboard and Nielsen decided that a rule change was necessary to restore order to a world that would otherwise have had to deal with everyone’s favorite trainwreck Britney Spears taking the top spot.

That aside, Avenged Sevenfold made a killer debut this week (please discuss!), and Maynard James Keenan of Tool’s Puscifer side project had a solid debut as well. Foo Fighters are still going strong with their latest, while Coheed & Cambria’s No World for Tomorrow dropped quite a bit. Thursday also apparently has a new album out (who knew?) and it debuted in the Top 200. Chart positions and sales numbers after the jump.

#1: The Eagles – Long Road Out of Eden
This Week: 710,946 (debut)

#2: Britney Spears – Blackout
This Week: 289,712 (debut)

Just including these for reference and we promise never to stain this column with their presence again… but the Eagles debut is the second highest all year (after Kanye West). Not a bad number for Brit-Brit either, proving that people still care.

#4: Avenged Sevenfold – Avenged Sevenfold
This Week: 93,749 (debut)

#12: Kid Rock – Rock N’ Roll Jesus
This Week: 48,996
Cume: 359,753

#21: Nickelback – All the Right Reasons
This Week: 28,886
Cume: 6,154,676

#22: Seether – Finding Beauty in Negative Space
This Week: 28,715
Cume: 85,782

Zuh? I fail to see how anyone still finds or EVER found beauty in this band.

#24: Serj Tankian – Elect the Dead
This Week: 27,263
Cume: 93,460
We missed the boat with Soundscan last week, but I’d like to point out that this had a 66,000 unit debut. Awesome.
#25: Puscifer – V is for Vagina
This Week: 26.524 (debut)

Hooray for Maynard!

#6: Foo Fighters – Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace
This Week: 19,306
Cume: 335,653

Hooray for Dave!

#44: Coheed & Cambria – No World for Tomorrow
This Week: 18,907
Cume: 81,105

#46: Linkin Park – Minutes to Midnight
This Week: 17,521
Cume: 1,836,465

Finally showing signs of slowing down after two consecutive weeks of dropping 5 spots or more… but still, this will definitely break 2 million. Sigh.

#48: Halloween – Halloween
This Week: 16,802
Cume: 55,037

#62: Flyleaf – Flyleaf
This Week: 13,469
Cume: 776,628

With a bullet, jumped 59 spots! Anyone know why?

#66: Jimmy Eat World – Chase This Light
This Week: 12,086
Cume: 94,269

#76: Eddie Vedder – Music for the Motion Picture Into the Wild
This Week: 10,784
Cume: 118,832

#81: Otep – Ascension
This Week: 10,238 (debut)

Not bad for a record that’s been floating around the Internet for several months.

#87: Finger Eleven – Them Vs. You Vs. Me
This Week: 9,720
Cume: 267,101

#90: Metalocalypse: Dethklok – Dethalbum
This Week: 9,521

How amazing is this? Maybe the real story here is that TV still sells albums.

This Week: 8,984
Cume: 86,191

100 through 200:

  • #103: Smashing Pumpkins – Zeitgeist (Cume: 325,707 — don’t let this chart spike fool you, it’s a repackage/reissue)

  • #109: Three Days Grace – One-X (Cume: 946,846)
