According to our esteemed colleagues over at Blabbermouth.net, Austin-based Sabbath-inspired metallic rockers The Sword will unveil their second full-length album, entitled Gods of the Earth, on April 1st. Although…that would make a hell of a joke, right? Announce the release date as April Fool’s Day, and then when it rolls around, hold back the album for another week or something?

I truly played out the band’s first record, Age of Winters, so much so that I have been ready for a new one for almost two years now. And it seems the wait is almost over, what with the mixing on Gods already completed and first single “Fire Lances of the Ancient Hyperzephyrians” scheduled for release on a 10″ vinyl EP on March 18th.

Blabbermouth proclaims the new material as “more ambitious, more accomplished and simply bigger”, with “huge, mountaintop-friendly hooks, thunderous drumming and oceanic bass lines [that] cut through the air like a scythe, while the ominous vocals of frontman J.D. Cronise weave fantastical tales rife with myth and mythology.”

Sounds pretty promising…
