MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND DEATH METAL SONGS TO GET BRAIN-SCRAMBLED TO: AEON AND EXHALE

The excellent metal blog No Clean Singing — which I, and you, really ought to pay more attention — posted two songs with the expressed intent of scrambling your brain. When I think “brain scrambling” my mind immediately turns to death metal, and thankfully NCS scribe Islander’s does too.

A double shot of new death metal — with mp3s — after the jump!

First we have Aeon, the seasoned Swedish death metal vets whose latest Erik Rutan-mixed album Path of Fire dropped just last week on Metal Blade. “With few exceptions, the songs depend on low-end, driving riffs and hammering double-kicks that put us in mind of an inexorably charging train, scattering sparks and belching smoke,” sez NCS. “The picking is fast and dynamic, yet there’s no flash-for-the-sake-of-flash going on here — each song is built around a defined rhythmic structure designed to burrow heavy grooves into your skull.” Find out for yourself:

Aeon – “The Sacrament”

And on the other, more grindy side of the DM spectrum we’ve got Exhale, fellow Swedes, which NCS describes thusly: “They’ve cross-bred pure, bat-out-of-hell grindcore with death metal to produce a barely controlled brute animal straining to run right over you. The rapid-fire vocals trade off between vein-bursting shrieking and gut-rumbling gutturals, and the instrumentation runs like a flat-out Formula One machine with brake failure.” Stream:

Exhale – “Fools”

Suck on that as you flip burgers and down shitty beer this weekend. And don’t forget to check out No Clean Singing. Happy Memorial Day Weekend, everyone.
