A Life Once Lost MetalSucks CMJ 2010

The MetalSucks/Metal Injection/1000Knives CMJ Music Marathon showcase is gonna be one of the most-fun shows of the year. (Which is why you’ve already bought a ticket, right?) All the cool kids already know that it’s A Life Once Lost’s first NYC show in eighteen months (!), and you’d have to be moron not to be excited to see those fellas once again slay The City That Never Sleeps.

But you’d have to be just as much of a moron not to be stoked to check out the four other great bands on the bill — namely, Car Bomb, This or The Apocalypse, Baptized in Blood, and Last Chance to Reason. If you’re not familiar with these bands yet, well… for shame. Get educated after the jump.

CAR BOMB

It’s been three years since Car Bomb’s last release, Centralia; that’s a long time to wait, but, luckily, they still come around to punish us all live when they can. It’s hard to think of a band with a much more appropriate name, for Car Bomb’s music is truly an explosion — unpredictable, overwhelming, and destructive. Here’s the video for “M^6”, from Centralia. And if you never have, check out this interview Axl did with Car Bomb bassist Jon Modell and drummer Elliot Hoffman back in 2008.

THIS OR THE APOCALYPSE

This will be our first time seeing ToTA live, but their new, Chris Adler-produced album, Haunt What’s Left, is the talk of the town right now. And even shitty bootleg videos like the one below (of the song “Charmer,” from Haunt) get our blood pumping. Listen to that crowd!

BAPTIZED IN BLOOD

When Dave Mustaine decides he’s gonna co-manage a band, well, that’s obviously a band you need that deserves your attention. Watch the below performance video and tell us we’re wrong. Baptized in Blood’s Roadrunner debut comes out just a day before this performance, and we hear they’re, uh, kind of excited, so except this band to fucking go OFF.

LAST CHANCE TO REASON

We saw this band live for the first time in August, and they KILL. Last Chance to Reason are techy and proggy but don’t ever get lost in pointless shreddery; their musicianship will knock your hat off even as if you find it impossible not to headbang in time with the music. Come get awesome with them.

Wednesday, October 20. Club Europa. Big Jay Oakerson is the MC. It’s gonna be incredible. Buy tickets here.
