DARKEST HOUR’S RYAN PARRISH SPEAKS OUT ABOUT A TOURING MUSICIAN’S GREATEST DILEMMAOne of our most favoritest drummers, Ryan Parrish, from one of our most favoritest bands, Darkest Hour, has launched a new column at one of our most favoritest websites, Metal Injection. It’s called “A View from Behind the Drumkit” (‘Cause he’s a drummer. Get it?), and for the inaugural edition of his column, he’s chosen to tackle one of the most pressing topics for any touring musician: “When do we eat?”

Here’s a sample:

“I’ve tried to plan my meals accordingly but by waiting to long, I usually end up so hungry that I’m supine and debilitated. On the flip, when I chow down vigorously beforehand, I’m so sick by the end of the set I’ve eaten the same meal twice; not by choice. You really haven’t experienced all of tour’s subtle profanities until you’ve had one of those horrifying moments where at any minute, a grande quesadilla’s going to make a special appearance behind the kit and rip a sickening drum solo on your sense of smell.”

Not being a touring musician myself (obviously), I find this column pretty fascinating, because this is exactly the kind of issue I never ever would have anticipated. Of course, it makes perfect sense… it’s just one of those things you never think of until someone points it out to you: You have to plan your meal time carefully when your job requires to go on stage and rock out in front of a live audience. Huh.

Man, touring SUCKS. I can’t believe all these dudes do it. Good for them.

ANYWAY, read the rest of Mr. Parrish’s column here. Darkest Hour will be on the MetalSucks-sponsored Summer Slaughter tour alongside The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, Six Feet Under, Dying Fetus, As Blood Runs Black, Oceano, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Powerglove, and Within the Ruins.
