AS THOUGH YOU NEEDED AN EXCUSE TO GO: GODFLESH PLAYING MARYLAND DEATHFEST X

Unlike those spoiled Europeans, America does not currently have an abundance of awesome annual metal festivals; there’s Maryland Deathfest, New England Metal and Hardcore Fest, and I guess Scion Rock Fest, although that one changes locations every year so I dunno if it counts, even if they’ve done a great job putting together a killer line-up three years running now.

My point being, there’s a reason Maryland Deathfest is so revered by metal fans in this country. And next year being the tenth edition of the fest, you would expects its organizers to put together something pretty special to celebrate.

And they have — they’ve snagged what looks to be Godflesh’s first performance on North American soil in a decade.

That’s right — the legendary Godflesh, who first reunited two years ago but have yet to play anywhere but Europe since then, have been added to the line-up of next year’s Maryland Deathfest. They join an already-killer line-up that also includes Suffocation, Saint Vitus, Electric Wizard, Today is the Day, Unsane, Ulcerate, and, uh, Morbid Angel (plus a ton more bands that have already been announced, and a ton more that are yet to be announced).

It seems not entirely unlikely that the band may announced other North American shows for around that time — after all, it’s costly to travel here from across the Atlantic, and it makes sense to offset those costs by performing more than just one single gig — but there’s been no actual announcement of additional shows as of yet. In other words: start making plans to get to Maryland Deathfest X. It’s not ’til Memorial Day weekend 2012, so you’ve got some time to get your shit together.

Here’s the fest’s complete line-up thus far:
