EX-ATREYU GUITARIST MAKES INDIE ROCK NOW

0

I know it’s hard to believe now — especially if you weren’t around to experience it — but there was a time 8-10 years ago when Atreyu were an interesting and relevant band. Before “metalcore” became a bad word they released two (possibly three) extremely influential albums and their name was uttered in the same revered breath as Killswitch Engage and Shadows Fall. Then they signed with Hollywood Records, went all hard rock, and we know the rest of the story from there.

So what have the members of Atreyu been up to for the last few years while they’ve been busy not releasing shitty hard rock records? Vocalist Alex Varkatzas teamed up with Bleeding Through mastermind Brandan Schieppati in I Am War, a grind duo that’s actually pretty good. Drummer/vocalist Brandon Saller is making bland hard rock in Hell or Highwater that makes Atreyu’s recent output look br00tal in comparison. And guitarist Travis Miguel is playing indie rock in a band called Fake Figures with members of Hotwire and Scars of Tomorrow (whoever those bands are… anyone?). Here’s the video for their new song. It’s, um… not really very interesting.
