Tour de Force

Former Iron Maiden vocalists Blaze Bayley and Paul Di’Anno have been touring together intermittently this year — news I somehow missed before reading this morning that they’re going to do an joint trek in Australia and New Zealand in November. In any case, I just wanna go on record right now as being 110% in favor of this idea. I mean, it’s like that David Lee Roth/Sammy Hagar tour from 2002, except that NO ONE CARES ABOUT THESE GUYS.

Really, the nicest thing you can say about either of them is that Di’Anno’s albums with Maiden were actually good. And still, ninety-nine out of a hundred people would rather hear someone else sing the songs from those albums.

And I cannot name a single Blaze Bayley-era Maiden song for you. Sorry. I have listened to Whatever Blaze’s First Album with Maiden Was Called and Whatever Blaze’s Second Album with Maiden Was Called exactly one time each, and that was many years ago, and I honestly don’t remember anything about them ever other than that they were completely awful.

Also, can we talk about that incredible tour poster from one of their Russian shows earlier this year? My big question is this: did either Blaze or Di’Anno or someone from the Blaze or Di’Anno camps have to approve that? I’m assuming someone had to approve that. In any case, holy shit are those pictures old. Really, this is what the tour poster should look like:

I sincerely believe that this poster would help sell more tickets, too. I mean, what metal fan wouldn’t wanna go see this train wreck?
