ANOTHER GUITARIST LIST OVER WHICH TO ARGUE!
“Oh, COME ON!”
Gibson — yup, the guitar manufacturers — have released their list of The Top 10 Metal Guitarists of All Time, and to their credit, it’s not just one big ad for their product: six of the ten spaces are occupied by guitarists who we generally picture with guitars that are not Gibsons (e.g., Eddie Van Halen, Dime, etc.).
As for the list itself, well… it’s not the list I would have made, but it’s certainly respectable. Like last week’s Rolling Stone readers’ poll of the top metal albums of all time, the choices are fairly predictable, and completely fail to acknowledge any innovations made in the genre after the early 90s. But at members of Metallica didn’t take up four spaces, so there’s that.
