Rage Against the Machine 1992

Rage Against the Machine will release a mammoth box set celebrating the 20th anniversary of their self-titled debut on November 27, appropriately titled XX. There are a few different configurations of the set being released, but the big daddy boxset version has all sorts of never-before-released material including plenty of live video and demos. Today we get one of each: a 1993 video of one of my all-time favorite Rage songs “Take the Power Back” (shot at the Vic Theatre in Chicago, IL) and a demo version

On the audio side, Guitar World is hosting a demo version of “Killing in the Name” which I highly recommend you check out; it’s not that much different from the final album version, but the song definitely evolved over time and it’s always cool to hear these songs in their nascent form. Immediately noticeable: the intro is way longer here and the solo is completely different; love hearing Morello shred it up on this demo!

I gotta admit, the marketing folks behind the XX boxset are doing a great job hyping it up; for the most part I’m over physical media that takes up space in my already-cluttered home, but I kinda want this! Order it here.

In case you missed it earlier this year, here’s some footage of RATM’s first ever concert at Cal State Northridge, October 1991:
