This Pinnick Gales Pridgen Project Could Be Pretty Cool

Pinnick Gales Pridgen

King’s X bassist/vocalist Doug Pinnick, ex-Mars Volta drumming phenom Thomas Pridgen and guitarist Eric Gales have teamed up for a new project, the appropriately titled Pinnick Gales Pridgen.

I’m automatically interested in anything featuring a member of King’s X, of which Pinnick is probably the most interesting and certainly the most prolific (check my interview with Doug from February 2012). Thomas Pridgen has been hailed as a phenomenal drummer, including by our own Kip Wingerschmidt as far back as 2008; although I’ve yet to really dig in to any of the Mars Volta material he played on, his association with Brent Hinds and Ben Weinman certainly speaks volumes about his abilities. I don’t know much about Eric Gales other than what I’ve learned from his website in the past few minutes, but I’m listening to some of his music right now (listen here) and he strikes me as an incredibly talented heavy blues-rock guitarist.

You can listen to some meaty samples of the Pinnick Gales Pridgen collaboration album right here, including a couple of full songs. I don’t think you’ll find anyone that’ll argue that this is metal, but it should appeal to anyone who likes good guitar playing, Pinnick’s incredible voice and heavy blues-inspired rock. The self-titled debut album will be released on February 12th via Magna Carta, and I’m definitely excited to hear what it holds. Here’s a trailer for the album:
