Listen to Manimal

Toulouse, France’s Manimal includes members of the Vince Neilstein-endorsed Psykup, and their first album, 2004’s Eros & Thanatos, featured guest vocals by Joe Duplantier. That’s probably enough to get you interested in the band, but in case it’s not, try this: the band sounds like a mix of At the Gates, Gojira, and Faith No More, with the occasional Halford falsetto tossed in. Seriously, that’s the only way I can think to describe them.

Reader Dan Wolfson e-mailed us to say the band’s 2012 release, Multiplicity, is one of the most overlooked of last year; I’ve been streaming it on Spotify all morning, and I’m already inclined to agree. Here’s the video for the track “Ben,” which I imagine will sell you on Manimal right quick:

If you don’t have Spotify (and c’mon, WHY don’t you have Spotify?!?), you can listen to another cut from Multiplicity, “Corey,” here. (All of the songs on the album are titled after male names.) It begins with a sample from the Corey Haim/Corey Feldman vehicle Dream a Little Dream, which may be considered high art in France? Whatever it, rules. Thanks, Dan!
