Samothrace + Pilgrim Announce Winter U.S. Tour

Two of the best doom bands out there are teaming up for a three-week run across the country (sorry, West Coast – you can always drive up to Portland, I guess?). Samothrace will hit the road on February 15th, rattling windows and encouraging hearing loss in their Seattle hometown before making their way down South. They’ll meet up with Pilgrim in NOLA on the 24th and keep on truckin’ ‘til March 6th. Both bands released fantastic records last year (Samothrace’s ‘Reverence to Stone’ was an absolute triumph), and Rhode Island trio Pilgrim especially deserve a bit more recognition for their fantastically rendered traditional doom sound (frontman Jon Rossi’s voice is a goddamn national treasure).

Drummer Joe Axler commented, “Finally, after a very short west coast run and an east coast run with Pallbearer and Royal Thunder than we sadly had to cancel due to a death in the family of a member of Samothrace, we at last get to hit the road for a full tour in support of our 2012 release of our second full length album, Reverence to Stone. We are very excited to hit the road again for a few weeks through the Midwest, South and East Coast. 10 of the 18 shows will be with our brothers in Rhode Island based Metal Blade recording artists, Pilgrim. On this tour we will be preforming Reverence to Stone in its entirety! Both songs on the record, “When We Emerged” and “A Horse of Our Own” will be our set list for this tour, with the possibility of (if time permits) one song off of our first record, Life’s Trade. When we perform these songs live most of the time we end up actually playing some parts slower and some parts faster depending on the mood we are in and the feeling we are getting in the room and from the people in attendance. We feed off of the people in the crowd greatly and (without sounding too hippy) the general aura at each show has a huge affect on how our set goes. On this tour, as well, besides the usual merch of shirts, patches, records, etc, we are very proud to say that our good friend Andrew Crawshaw has designed an absolutely beautiful poster that he will be screen printing at his shop, Broken Press, for us to have at our merch table, these will be limited to this tour so get em while you can!!”
