Howl Finish Record a New Album and Announce a Spring U.S. Tour

Howl 2013

It’s been a while since we heard from Rhode Island doom-bringers Howl. The band toured relentlessly in support of their 2010 Relapse Records debut Full of Hell and quickly endeared themselves to us as one of the most powerful and engaging live bands to come out of the Northeast in quite a while. Full of Hell itself was a bit scattered and long-winded, though, and fell short of capturing what made Howl such an entrancing live band. I felt that what the band needed most was a producer, someone who could provide a fifth set of ears, reign the band in a little bit and get them to focus on creating the best songs they possibly can.

Seems like I wasn’t the only who thought that; the band just wrapped up recording their new album with the infamous Chris “Zeuss” Harris at his studio in Western Massachusetts. Who better to produce a new Howl record than the guy who produced albums by 3 Inches of Blood, Arsis, The Acacia Strain, God Forbid, Hatebreed, Municipal Waste, Revocation, Shadows Fall and a hundred other bands you love? The new album will be called Bloodlines and is set for release via Relapse Records on April 30th. We couldn’t be more excited to hear what the team of Howl + Zeuss has come up with.

While we wait for new Howl music, the band is taking their show on the road once more. There’s a big gap in their schedule during SXSW, and the band will already be in Texas… but we can neither confirm nor deny rumors that Howl might be appearing at a MetalSucks-sponsored event in Austin.
