Lord Have Mercy House

The Mercy HouseModern hard rock and pop metal bands seem to make at least one and possibly three of three possible mistakes: they don’t write catchy songs, their lyrics are too self-consciously trying to be badass to be anything but ridiculous, and they dress the way a blind person attempting to look like the members of Mötley Crüe might.

London’s The Mercy House, magically, manages to avoid all of these pratfalls. Their 2012 release, A Broken State of Bliss, obviously owes a large debt to alt-metal acts of the 90s — the Alice in Chains influence is unmistakable — and vocalist Drew Davies tosses in just the right amount of Halford to give it that little extra oomph and make sure that it never veers off into moose rock.

You can check out The Mercy House’s new video, “My Disease,” below. And below that you can stream A Broken State of Bliss, thanks to Spotify. Enjoy!
