Gigantour 2013 is Off to a Horrible Start

As though it’s not bad enough that David Draiman contributed to the new Megadeth album, Pooper Collider, Dave Mustaine has now revealed to Syracuse radio station WAQX that Device are going to be one of the bands on this year’s Gigantour.

That might not be such a big deal if Gigantour were actually a gigantic tour, as it was during its first couple of runs, when it had multiple stages and eight to ten bands. Once you’re trying to book a certain number of bands, having some duds on the bill is nearly inevitable (which is part of the reason why Summer Slaughter is so notable — they’re usually about as close to dud-free as one can reasonably expect), and that’s okay, because it’s gonna provide people with much-needed bathroom breaks, beer breaks, and lawn naps.

But Gigantour isnt a gigantic tour. Really, it should be called Avergeheightour: the past three versions have had only four to five bands, which is about as man as pretty much every tour in the world has these days.

In other words, it’s entirely possible that half the bill for this show is going to be Megadeth and Device. In which case they’re going to have to book, like, Faith No More and At the Gates as the other half of the line-up to make the ticket price worth it. I mean… The David Draiman Project and The Off-Key Ghost of Dave Mustaine? Yeah no thanks I’m good.
