Smashing Sylosis

  • Axl Rosenberg

I friggin’ adore Sylosis — their most recent release, Monolith, was one of my favorites of 2012 — but I’m not entirely sure how I feel about this cover of The Smashing Pumpkins’ “Zero,” which they performed for the BBC Radio 1’s Rock Show With Daniel P. Carter. I like the part where they actually put their own stamp on the song (“She’s the one for me…”), but I kinda wish they’d done more; other than the vocals and the guitar solo, it’s basically the same song. And I’ve never heard “Zero” and thought “What this really needs is screaming.”

It’s not like I hate this. I just wish it were even more Sylosis-y. Hopefully that makes sense.
