NIN 2013

HUZZAH!!!

Not that this is EXACTLY the most shocking news in the world, given that a new Nine Inch Nails tour has already been announced, but it’s still happy-making: Nine Inch Nails will release a new album later this year via Columbia Records. Trent Reznor broke the news yesterday afternoon via Tumblr:

“I’ve been less than honest about what I’ve really been up to lately. For the last year I’ve been secretly working non-stop with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder on a new, full-length Nine Inch Nails record, which I am happy to say is finished and frankly fucking great. This is the real impetus and motivation behind the decision to assemble a new band and tour again. My forays into film, HTDA and other projects really stimulated me creatively and I decided to focus that energy on taking Nine Inch Nails to a new place. Here we go!”

The funny thing is, it’s been less than four years since since Reznor announced that he was putting NIN on hiatus, and five years since the release of the last NIN full-length, The Slip… which is a long time for most bands, but nothing in Reznor years. It was five years in-between The Downward Spiral and The Fragile, and SIX years in-between The Fragile and With Teeth. So this whole “hiatus” thing really ended up being a non-issue for fans. Reznor might as well have never announced it. Maybe he had planned to keep NIN on ice longer?

Whatever whatever whatever, new NIN music this year = me happy. Hopefully we get to hear something real soon!

Thanks: Bryce
